Singer Kelly Clarkson has had a difficult year with her children following the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Sources say the “Stronger” singer has spent the past year supporting her children, River, 12, and Remington, 10. She has been helping them grieve and adjust after the untimely death of their father.

A source told Page Six that Clarkson has been very conscious of how her children have reacted to losing their father at such a young age. “Losing a parent at such a young age is something no child should ever have to go through. Kelly has done everything she can to be there for River and Remy as they’ve navigated that loss,” the source said.
The insider added, “Her focus has been making sure they feel loved, supported and as stable as possible while giving them the space to grieve in their own way.”
The singer filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020. The split led to a lengthy legal battle over spousal support, custody of their two children, and the ownership of Clarkson’s Montana ranch.
Clarkson was awarded primary custody of the children in November 2020. The former couple finalized their divorce in March 2022. Blackstock was ordered to vacate the ranch by June 2022.
Clarkson revealed in February that the current season of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” would be its last. The singer explained that stepping away from the talk show would give her more time to spend with her children. The insider added, “Stepping away from her daytime show wasn’t an easy decision because she genuinely loved it, but it gave her the time and flexibility she needed to put her family first.”
Brandon Blackstock, the talent manager and former husband of Kelly Clarkson, died on Aug. 7, 2025, at the age of 48. He had been battling aggressive melanoma for three years.
