A viral concert clip convinced some fans that the man onstage was not Usher. As the theory spread online, the singer addressed it but did not appear to take it seriously.
Usher denied using a clone during his Raymond & Brown Tour shows with Chris Brown
Usher shut down rumors that he used a clone or body double during recent shows. Fans accused the 47-year-old musician of hiring a lookalike for Raymond & Brown Tour concerts with Chris Brown, and the speculation spread on social media in early August.
The “OMG” singer laughed off the rumors in a video on the official R&B Tour account on Sunday, Aug. 9. The post paired footage of Usher performing with screenshots of his Instagram comments about the clone allegations.
He opened with a laughing emoji and wrote, “Ya’ll are funny…clone? They can’t clone this??”
In another comment, he asked, “How ya’ll come up with this?” After several more laughing emojis, he joked, “AI ain’t that advanced.”
Viral MetLife clips fueled the theory after footage from Usher’s Friday, Aug. 7, show at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium spread online. Some fans said he looked different and uncanny.
One X post with more than 4 million views said he could not fool New York and demanded a refund. A TikTok user also accused him of sending out his “doppelganger.”
Another TikTok user called the rumored double “a very bad” likeness. Multiple fans also questioned whether they were really watching Usher. Commenters noted that a hat and sunglasses obscured the singer’s face and fueled the lookalike claims. Usher, born Usher Raymond IV, is touring with Brown, 37. Their co-headlining run began in June and continues through December across North America.
Last month delivered a different viral moment. At his Nashville stop on July 25, Usher brought a fan onstage for a steamy dance and a serenade of “Can U Handle It?”, then had her removed after she seemed uncomfortable. “I don’t think she wanna be on the stage,” he said at the Nissan Stadium show.
