Brad Pitt said AI could help mid-budget films get made despite pushback

Brad Pitt, in an interview with Esquire, spoke about the role of AI. While discussing how AI could be used for visual effects, he said, “There’s a lot of pushback against AI, but AI is going to be the very thing that, if used as a tool, is going to help these mid-budget films, forty to ninety-million-dollar budgeted films, get made.”

When asked whether an AI version of Brad Pitt could be used for Heart of the Beast, his upcoming film, he said it depends on who is creating it. Pitt said, “Well, they would have got it—no, because—well, it depends on who’s creating it, you know? Who’s behind it, who’s telling the story, who’s saying, ‘I want to see this emotion from him,’ and then being able to mine through whatever AI provides and going, ‘More in this direction.

“Look, it’s gonna be a very interesting experiment. I heard an AI song the other day that was pretty damn good. But it had a repetitive nature to it. It’s not going to be the same as hearing her voice—a woman’s voice, a person’s voice,” he added.

He also discussed his digital likeness, revealing that he has been scanned for the past 20 years.

The actor argued that AI can be useful depending on how filmmakers use it creatively. However, he questioned AI’s ability to depict emotions, saying that “AI cannot do that.”
