Harry and Meghan Take Another Hit as Their Documentary Struggles at Box Office

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s latest documentary has opened to disappointing box-office numbers. The film, however, has received strong reviews from critics.

The documentary, Cookie Queens, was released through Roadside Attractions. It marks the Sussexes’ theatrical feature debut as executive producers through Archewell Productions.

According to Page Six, the documentary earned $327,797 from 446 screens during its opening weekend. It finished 15th at the domestic box office. Its per-screen average was $735, placing it behind CatVideoFest 2026, a 70-minute compilation of viral cat videos that ranked five spots higher.

Directed by Alysa Nahmias, Cookie Queens follows a competitive Girl Scout cookie season. It has received strong critical praise, including a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Industry analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations suggested the release date may have hurt the film’s chances. “The documentary probably should have been released at the height of Girl Scout cookie season, when the cookies, and the girls selling them, are part of the national conversation,” he told Page Six. He added that, for small documentaries, “timing is marketing.”

The debut’s performance has once again shifted attention to Harry and Meghan’s entertainment ventures. Archewell’s biggest success remains the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” released in 2022. However, the couple’s later projects, including “Polo” and “With Love,” have not been able to generate similar momentum.

Even so, the debut also received praise from a source who shared a positive assessment of working with the Duchess of Sussex. They said,

“I have to say I really do like her. I haven’t met Harry, but she has been good to work with.”

Harry and Meghan signed a reported $100 million Netflix deal in 2020. Since then, the couple has expanded into documentaries, podcasts, and lifestyle programming.
