Drew Barrymore Comes Face-to-Face With Woman From Her Sobriety Journey

Drew Barrymore shared an emotional reunion during a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. The 51-year-old host reunited with a flight attendant who comforted her during a difficult time four years ago. Their meeting brought back memories from the early days of Barrymore’s sobriety journey. Barrymore became tearful as she thanked the woman for being there when she needed support.

The flight attendant reminded Barrymore that they first met on a flight. She said Barrymore cried in the galley because she was going through a lot. The woman recalled sitting with Barrymore and holding her while she cried. Barrymore then invited her to join her in the audience and gave her a tearful hug.

Barrymore remembered the meeting taking place during a difficult time of the year. She said it was also the year she decided to stop drinking. “When you stop drinking, it’s not like all your problems go away; there’s still a ton of work to be done,” she said. Barrymore also said that alcohol was a poison for her and that she drank because she didn’t want to feel.

The actress admitted that alcohol was her biggest issue. She said that when she was drinking, she felt better, and that was why she continued to drink. Barrymore later joked that she needed the flight attendant’s phone number. She also said there was a reason they met that day and thanked her for being honest with her again.

Barrymore has spoken openly about her sobriety in the past. In 2022, she wrote about it in her magazine, Drew, and called giving up alcohol one of the most liberating parts of her journey. She said she had not consumed any alcohol for two and a half years as of December 2021. She described her journey as a “quiet, confident” one and said that alcohol no longer served her or her life.
