The Michael Jackson estate has scored a major legal win in its latest battle with the Cascio family. A federal judge has now determined where the siblings’ claims must be handled.
The Michael Jackson estate won its bid to move the Cascio siblings’ case out of federal court
According to TMZ, U.S. District Judge Hernán D. Vera ruled Wednesday. The case brought by Edward, Dominic, Marie-Nicole and Aldo Cascio must move to private arbitration.
The siblings had filed a lawsuit against Jackson’s estate in February 2026. They accused Michael Jackson of sexually abusing them as children and sought to challenge a previous settlement with the estate.
The estate denied the allegations. At the center of the ruling is a 2019 settlement agreement between the Cascio family and Jackson’s estate. The agreement included an arbitration clause requiring disputes between the parties to be resolved privately.
Judge Vera found that provision enforceable. As a result, the federal court sent the dispute to arbitration rather than allowing it to proceed as a public trial. The ruling does not determine whether the siblings’ allegations are true. Instead, it decides how their legal claims must proceed under the previous agreement.
The Cascio siblings have argued that the 2019 settlement should not prevent their claims from moving forward in court. Their lawsuit sought to invalidate the agreement and included allegations stemming from their childhood relationship with Jackson.
The siblings had been close to Jackson while growing up. They described him as part of their family and publicly defended him when allegations against the singer emerged.
Their position later changed. The siblings have said the 2019 HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” influenced how they understood their experiences. That led them to reconsider their earlier support of Jackson.
The estate previously reached a reported $3.5 million settlement with the siblings. The estate did not admit wrongdoing as part of that agreement. Howard King, an attorney for the Cascio siblings, criticized the latest ruling. He told TMZ that the family had hoped to have a public trial and allow a jury to consider their allegations.
King also argued that the siblings should be able to challenge whether the estate forced them to sign the 2019 agreement. The next phase will now take place through private arbitration. That process means the dispute over the settlement and the siblings’ claims will not proceed through the federal courtroom as a public trial.
For the Michael Jackson estate, the ruling represents a significant procedural victory. For the Cascio siblings, however, the fight continues in a different legal setting.
