The Mississippi-born rapper had sought to have the defamation case dismissed, but the judge has rejected his request. According to TMZ’s coverage, the defamation allegations filed by Ray J’s ex, Kim Kardashian, and her mother, Kris Jenner, will continue moving forward.
Meanwhile, the rapper’s breach-of-contract countersuit has been sent to private arbitration.
The judge said questions remained about whether Ray J’s statements could be viewed as factual claims. The court also questioned whether he knew his livestream was still running. Those unresolved issues allowed Kardashian and Jenner’s claims to proceed.
The court determined that several issues remain unresolved, so it scheduled the trial for May 2028.
The dispute began in May 2025, when Ray J said during a TMZ special that racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be appropriate. He later made stronger claims during a September 2025 livestream. Ray J said he was working on a federal RICO case involving Kim and Kris.
Kardashian and Jenner eventually took legal action. Kardashian and Jenner filed a defamation lawsuit against Ray J in a Los Angeles court. Their attorney, Alex Spiro, said the case concerned what they called false allegations. Their lawyers argued that no federal RICO case or investigation existed. They also accused Ray J of spreading false claims for publicity.
In November 2025, Ray J filed a cross-complaint involving his 2003 sex tape with Kardashian. He alleged that they agreed to release the tape. He also claimed they reached a $6 million settlement in 2023. The agreement allegedly restricted public discussion of the tape.
