Fans were excited to see Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock return as their beloved witches. However, the excitement quickly took a turn after the new Practical Magic 2 poster was released. While fans have been looking forward to the magical reunion, many were not impressed by the promotional artwork.
Fans slam the ‘cheap’ look of Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock’s sequel poster
According to OK Magazine, the poster shows Kidman and Bullock’s profiles side by side against a black background with gold flecks and dramatic lighting. Meanwhile, new cast members Joey King and Maisie Williams appear in black dresses in front of the iconic house from the original movie.
However, fans on X quickly turned their attention to the poster itself. One person wrote, “That poster won’t sell you extra tickets. It’s way down in the uncanny valley. Do yourselves a favor and change it.” Another fan thought the artwork looked suspiciously artificial, writing, “Thought it was fan-made with AI.”
Someone else simply called it “low budget,” while another complained that the actresses looked “Airbrushed to heaven and back.” “This is one of the worst posters I’ve ever seen omg,” another fan added.
But the poster wasn’t the only thing causing frustration. Some fans also questioned the casting for the next generation of witches. The sequel will once again follow Sally and Gillian Owens, played by Bullock and Kidman, as Sally’s daughters uncover dark family secrets and discover their own powers.
However, Bullock’s onscreen daughters, Kylie and Antonia, will not be played by their original actresses, Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip. Wood previously admitted that she was “sad” not to return. Still, she understood the filmmakers’ decision.
Meanwhile, fans made their disappointment clear under King’s behind-the-scenes Instagram post. “Genuinely don’t understand why they didn’t keep the original cast. Truly sucks,” one person wrote.
Despite the criticism, Bullock and Kidman remain excited about returning to the world of Practical Magic. The sequel was announced in 2025, with Kidman saying at the time, “We’re so excited. Yes, yes, beyond excited.” The sequel to the 1998 classic will hit theaters on September 11.
