Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that she has remained close to a longtime friend despite their opposing political views. The comedian explained why her friendship with Wynonna Judd, a Donald Trump supporter, has survived their political differences.

Speaking on “The Tangle with Kyle Ridley” podcast, O’Donnell touched upon her strong dislike for U.S. President Donald Trump. Asked whether she had had to cut people from her life for her political preference, she could only name one friend who is a Trump supporter. She admitted that she is friends with Wynonna Judd even though she is a Trump supporter.
“Well you know, I don’t really have any people in my life who support him. I think it would be very difficult to do that,” O’Donnell said in the interview. She added, “Now, I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump.”
According to HuffPost, she said that the secret to their friendship is that they “never bring up” the topic during conversations. “I kind of give her a grace in a way,” O’Donnell added. She explained that the country singer has “had so much in her life with her mom taking her own life and just the complicated nature of her upbringing.”
O’Donnell continued, detailing their relationship: “And I really love her and I care about her, and ― for some reason ― I’m able to put that aside when we interact,” she said.
The Emmy-winning comedian revealed that she had no other Trump supporter in her circle. She then explained why she finds support for Trump difficult to understand: “His cruelty is so blatant. His criminal behavior is so obvious. His misogyny, his racism, his homophobia. He’s just a very dark spirit, and I don’t know why that’s not obvious to the world.”
Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump have been feuding for a long time. In one instance, she criticized him on The View over the Miss USA controversy, which led to years of insults, legal threats, and ongoing social media attacks from both sides.
