Prince Harry famously appeared on Joe Marler’s podcast during his UK visit last month, and the former rugby star has now opened up about the Duke of Sussex’s behavior behind the scenes. During the episode, Marler and co-host Jake Bhardwaj spoke with Harry about a range of topics, giving fans a glimpse into the royal’s personality away from the spotlight.
Joe Marler sheds light on Prince Harry’s behavior before July interview
Speaking to the Mirror on August 15, Joe Marler opened up about Prince Harry’s behavior before their conversation on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast in July. The retired English rugby player recalled, “We were in the room waiting for him to arrive, thinking it’s going to be this big event, and he just comes straight in, said, ‘Hi guys, how you doing?’ And comes over and hugs me, and then hugs Jake.”
After being introduced by his full name, “Henry Charles Albert David,” the royal was asked if there was a shorter version he preferred. His answer was simple: “Harry.” When asked about his occupation, he also skipped the royal title and kept things casual, describing himself as a “Full-time dad, British Army veteran…”
Marler continued, “Within 90 seconds, it was like talking to a normal person, so I thought let’s just treat him accordingly, and we did.” Elsewhere in the interview, he admitted that he had been nervous about meeting Harry, saying, “I was nervous, thinking about the whole thing and also the polarising public opinion of it,” he claimed.
He further explained, “I knew I liked him. I was Team Harry, if there were teams or whatever.” During the podcast, Marler, Harry, and co-host Jake Bhardwaj covered a wide range of topics, from grooming routines to the Invictus Games.
Harry also showed off his competitive and animated side as he finished famous advertising slogans and even sang the ChuckleVision theme tune. Reflecting on their time together, Marler told the Mirror, “He was great, honestly, he was fantastic.”
He continued, “For him to be so generous with his time and give that up to us and be so open and up for a laugh, and also deal with topics like grief and trauma and what he’s so passionate about with JJ Chalmers and the Invictus Games was just incredible.”
