Howie Mandel reveals his soft spot for comedians competing on America’s Got Talent Season 21
Mandel has judged America’s Got Talent since 2010. He usually has a strong idea about which contestant could win. However, Season 21 has left him less certain than usual.
“I usually, at this point, have a clear idea of who I believe is gonna win,” Mandel told Entertainment Weekly. He said his prediction record had been around 80 percent. This season, however, several contestants had surprised him.
Mandel admitted he naturally connected with contestants who performed stand-up comedy. His personal experience as a comedian appeared to influence that preference. Still, he insisted that he supported every contestant remaining in the competition.
“Well, there’s nobody that I’m not pulling for,” Mandel explained. He then acknowledged his preference for comedians. “Personally, I would like a comedian to do very well.”
Mandel also highlighted Nene Royal as a major standout this season. The young artist had impressed both the judges and viewers. Her appearances reportedly generated significant attention online.
“We all are aware of Nene being the rockstar that she is,” Mandel said. He also pointed to Hundred Fingers as another memorable contestant. Mandel had awarded the magician group a Golden Buzzer.
He described Hundred Fingers as “magic done in a way I’ve never seen it done before.” The remaining contestants included singers, magicians, aerialists, and comedians. They would now face the pressure of performing during the Live shows.
Mandel said the judges believed every remaining act could potentially win. However, the contestants would need to deliver under intense pressure. The audience would ultimately help determine who moved forward.
“You sit there like a parent at a recital,” Mandel said. He compared the judges’ experience to watching children perform. The Live Shows would bring contestants closer to the $1 million prize.
With Season 21 entering its next stage, Mandel remained unsure about the outcome. His preference for comedians could add interest to the competition. However, He appeared ready to support whichever contestant earned America’s votes.
