Recent reports claim Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing for an extended U.K. return. They reportedly want a quiet, non-royal existence there along with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Neither the Duke nor the Duchess of Sussex has publicly confirmed the move. However, a spokesperson told the BBC that the couple plans to relocate later this month. The move has already sparked debate about what their future role could look like.
Former royal butler claims Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t stay quiet in the background in the UK
According to the Daily Express, former royal butler Grant Harrold believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will remain highly visible after returning to Britain. The couple will likely keep a high profile even though they are no longer working royals. Harrold said the royal family will need to answer one major question once the Sussexes settle back in the U.K. “I think this is going to be the big thing for both the Royal Family and the Sussexes to work out. What will they actually do all day?”
He also believes the couple will not be content living a quiet life away from public attention. “I don’t think either Meghan or Harry will be happy to just settle into a quiet UK life in the background; they will want to be at the forefront.” According to Harrold, the Duke and Duchess may instead continue building their own public profile through charity work and personal projects.
He suggested they could live as “unofficial royals,” carrying out engagements independently rather than on behalf of King Charles. The former butler added that Meghan could continue expanding her As Ever lifestyle brand in the U.K., while Harry is expected to focus heavily on promoting the 2027 Invictus Games.
Harrold also questioned what other projects Harry might pursue in Britain. He noted that television networks would likely be interested in working with the duke on future appearances. Meanwhile, reports continue to suggest King Charles has ruled out any return to a formal “half-in, half-out” royal arrangement. However, discussions about the Sussexes’ future role have fueled ongoing speculation.
For now, the reported move remains just weeks away. The BBC says a spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the relocation. But Meghan and Harry have not publicly addressed the reports. The couple has also shared no details about their long-term plans in the U.K.
