Prince William might strip his brother, Prince Harry, of his royal titles after taking the throne, according to a royal expert. The brothers’ relationship soured due to the Duke of Sussex’s explosive claims about the British royal family. They have reportedly not spoken to one another in years. With Harry’s return to the UK, there has been a lot of speculation about his brother’s reaction.
Prince William could reportedly reconsider Prince Harry’s royal titles
Six years after their infamous exit from the UK, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back across the pond with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In his August 23 Substack post, royal author Andrew Morton noted that King Charles’s “cautious embrace of his returning prodigal son” could bother Prince William. He wrote that the Sussexes finally appear to be achieving the “half-in, half-out” royal status that Queen Elizabeth III had previously disapproved of.
“The only way that Queen Elizabeth II’s decision can now be honoured is if their titles are stripped along with their children. Otherwise, they are working royals by proxy with all the freedom and earning power they wanted in the first place,” Morton wrote. Referencing a controversial decision Denmark’s former monarch, Queen Margrethe, made, he said that Prince William might opt for the same path when he becomes the king.
He noted, “It’s clear an ailing King Charles will not resolve this irreconcilable tension, but a future King William V may very well follow Queen Margrethe of Denmark, who stripped four of her grandchildren of their royal titles, and remove those of his brother and his cousins Beatrice and Eugenie.”
For those unversed, Queen Margrethe stripped her son Prince Joachim’s four children of royal titles in 2020. William could potentially do the same with Prince Harry and his children. Morton said that the Prince of Wales will likely “find a public broadly supportive of such a measure.”
