Not Suitable For Work will not return for a second season after Hulu pulled the plug on the series after one season. Mindy Kaling, who created and produced the series, reacted to the news by sharing a carousel of behind-the-scenes moments.
Mindy Kaling reacts to Hulu canceling Not Suitable for Work after one season
On August 24, a report by Variety confirmed that Hulu had decided not to renew the comedy series. Kaling addressed the show’s cancellation in an emotional Instagram post shared on August 25. She wrote, “I love this show, I loved making this show, I love these people, and I love all of you for all your sweet comments, messages, edits, and for watching @notsuitableforwork.”
The 47-year-old comedian, who is also the creator of The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever, and The Sex Lives of College Girls, gave fans a look behind the scenes in her post. She shared photos with the crew in New York City, along with moments from the cast’s Good Morning America appearance and their time on set.
Both Duvernay and Vandanapu reacted to Kaling’s post with red heart emojis. Queer Eye star Tan France wrote, “You created something brilliant. Such sad news!” A fan commented, “It felt like a modern-day Friends! This show was so good, and I’m so sad it’s not being renewed. The petition has been signed, really hoping it gets picked up elsewhere!”
Not Suitable For Work was Kaling’s first solo creator credit since The Mindy Project. She also served as an executive producer on the project. The series was produced under her Kaling International banner. The series premiered in June and ran for nine episodes. Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, Nicholas Duvernay, and Jay Ellis led the cast. The comedy followed a group of Gen-Zers trying to succeed at work while finding time for their personal lives in Manhattan’s Murray Hill.
