Meghan Markle drew sharp criticism after a clip from an expert claimed the Duchess of Sussex may want her royal status back. The report centered on claims that she was considering a princess title amid struggles with solo ventures. A commentator later called the alleged move a “trashy ploy.” The same clip framed the title push as another royal family flashpoint for the Sussex brand. It renewed debate over royal labels after years of public tension.
Meghan Markle slammed by expert for allegedly reclaiming her royal princess title
As per Sky News Australia, Samara Gill addressed Meghan Markle’s princess title claim. Host Danica De Giorgio said Meghan was “apparently so desperate” and wanted “that royal status restored.” Gill responded that she did want “validation.” However, the commentator added that Meghan also wanted “to continue to coast off” the royal titles. She called that dynamic “damning and heartbreaking” for the royal family to witness.
Gill then pointed to previous title-related moments involving the “Suits” alum. She referenced claims about letter headings and the public phrase “Meghan Sussex.” The commentator also tied the issue to the Duchess’s Netflix exchange with Mindy Kaling.
For context, during an episode of Netflix’s “With Love, Meghan,” she and “The Office” star Mindy Kaling were discussing childhood food memories when Kaling said, “People wouldn’t believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box.” Meghan replied, “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now,” before explaining that the name mattered because she shared it with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Gill said Meghan was “obsessed with the royal family.” She also claimed Meghan is interested in “the cash grab that she can make off it.” Gill contrasted that with royal work, calling it about “service” and “dignity and respect.” The sharpest judgment came when Gill directly rejected the reported title push.
She called it “a really really trashy ploy.” The commentator also addressed the idea of being called “Princess Meghan” again. Gill said, “Well, you haven’t earned that, Meghan, so just drop it.” She added, “It’s never going to be you.”
Meghan and Prince Harry stepped back as working royals in 2020. The pair still use the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles publicly. Since then, their titles have remained a repeated public pressure point.
