According to an insider, his rekindled relationship with King Charles has started blurring the line between private citizen and part-time royal, even though the Palace insists nothing has changed formally.

Prince Harry is reportedly easing into a “half-in, half-out” reality without an official deal. A source told OK! Magazine that Harry’s reunion with King Charles at Highgrove has opened the door to frequent trips across the Atlantic. Reportedly, the Duke had already been planning visits “every few weeks” before the big news broke confirming his return to the UK on August 26 alongside Meghan Markle, and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The insider discussed this event as circumstantial rather than sanctioned: “Circumstances have evolved to the point where elements of that model are beginning to happen naturally and Harry is edging closer and closer to finalizing the agreement he wanted under Megxit all along.” They maintained the original “half-in, half-out” proposal was not “formally resurrected.” But, pieces of the old model appear to be falling in place on their own.
However, Buckingham Palace’s messaging remains unchanged. Last year, a source told The Times that the King has no plans to alter his late mother’s rule. The said rule implied there’s no such thing as a “half-in, half-out” role for the family. The Palace has made it clear that both Harry and Meghan remain private, non-working royals. Moreover, that their UK return doesn’t change their status.
The rumor mill has remained unaffected by this. Harry and Meghan were apparently left off the invite list for the family’s annual Balmoral gathering this year. This allegedly led to an emergency huddle over how the senior royals should be handling the Sussexes in the future.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Queen Camilla has grown close to Kate Middleton and is pushing her husband to draw firm boundaries. The Queen is allegedly concerned that a revived half-in, half-out setup could create two competing camps within the family.
For now, Harry has reportedly kept things vague. His focus remains “on recovering a piece of the British life he has missed, rather than reclaiming his former place within the institution.” Whether that quietly evolves into something permanent or gets shut down the way it was back in 2020 still seems to depend on who in the family gets the final say.
