A fresh royal rift may be brewing just as the festive season approaches. According to reports, tension between Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, has resurfaced. Now, a palace insider claims that the future king wants nothing to do with Harry and Meghan Markle this Christmas.

Prince William is at the center of the debate as speculation mounts over what the royal family’s Christmas gathering at Sandringham will look like this year. A source cited by Heatworld claims that he is simply trying to “exert some control” over the guest list and “potentially put a block on [Prince] Harry and Meghan [Markle]’s invitation before anything is finalised.”
Given the importance of the tradition at Sandringham and King Charles’ health, the alleged fallout has reignited questions about whether the estranged brothers can ever share a table again. The insider also suggested that it would be almost unthinkable for the Prince of Wales to walk away from the celebrations entirely.
Still, from William’s side, the source claims his position is unambiguous: “It’s me or Harry.” He is said to believe that too much damage has been done to the relationship to “pretend everything is fine” and sit down for Christmas celebrations. He also does not want the festivities to be overshadowed by unresolved tension with Markle and Harry.
Notably, William and his wife, Kate Middleton, do have a plausible alternative. The Prince and Princess of Wales last spent Christmas with the Middleton family a decade ago in 2016. This gives them a reasonable excuse to prioritize the princess’ relatives this year. Meanwhile, the Sussexes, too, could choose to spend the holidays in the US with Markle’s mother, potentially sidestepping the issue entirely.
The source further claims that William wants to avoid a public “showdown” with his father over the guest list. They further said, “In his view, staying away is actually preferable to forcing everyone to sit through an incredibly uncomfortable family gathering.” However, all claims remain unconfirmed by Kensington Palace or Buckingham Palace, and details could shift before the holidays arrive.
