Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) isn’t ruling out love, but she probably wouldn’t date a conservative following her reported split from fiancé Riley Roberts. The 36-year-old congresswoman said shared values play an important role in a relationship.

The New York Democrat shared the comments after being approached by a TMZ reporter. In a clip shared on September 1, a reporter asked AOC if she would ever date a conservative. The congresswoman replied, “I have to say … probably not.”
She further stated, “No foul to people who do, but how you define that is very different from person to person. I think a lot of politics sometimes, at least for me, is about values, and being aligned in values is tremendously important.”
The reporter also asked the lawmaker about the possibility of starting a family during her time in office. To which she responded that many parents had told her there is “never a right time” to have children. “I do think for a very long time I was very concerned. It was very hard for me to imagine very basic things. It was hard for me to imagine being able to have a baby here when child care is so expensive, and I acknowledge, relative to many Americans, that I am in a place of privilege, and even I don’t know how it would be possible.”
She said her ambition goes beyond her career and includes making the most of life. At times, she focuses on achieving ambitious goals at work, while at other times, she prioritizes love and family. She also said her family raised her to put family first. Her remarks follow her reported split from Roberts, whom she got engaged to in her family’s hometown in Puerto Rico in 2022. The couple met at Boston University when they were 19 and started dating in their 20s. AOC is also being considered as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
