Summer House: Why Kyle Cooke Being Carl Radke’s Flower Boy Is Lame

I am a big fan of Loverboy founder Kyle Cooke. Summer House would not be the show it is without the 41-year-old partyer and forever Peter Pan syndrome-struck New Yorker. Even though Kyle has been a bit wild, he has always been a good friend. Kyle seems to have empathy for his roomie’s struggles. At times, Kyle is not great at opening up about his own emotions. But for the most part, he has grown and now confides a lot of his struggles to Paige DeSorbo

But after the latest Summer House episode, I am left scratching my head, asking, is Carl Radke for real? Is this a thing grown men are asking their grown friends to do? If I were Kyle, I’d prefer to just be told sorry, you’re not in the wedding. In Paige’s words, “That’s insane. I wouldn’t even go. I would’ve slapped Carl in the face if he said that to me.”

Carl officiated Kyle’s wedding

During the Hamptons 500 Carl broke the news that Kyle would barely be in the wedding. When the words that Kyle had been demoted to a flower boy were unleashed, Kyle looked shocked, as he should. He tried to make a joke, noting that it would be him and two models. Clearly upset, he couldn’t hold back from asking, “Let me ask you, so you have groomsmen, but I’m not a groomsman?” The groom did, in fact, confirm that his once best friend would not be at the wedding party. According to Carl, “Lindsay didn’t want Kyle to be a groomsman.” The reason; Kyle speaking ill of their relationship. How quickly we forget that Carl actually officiated Kyle’s wedding in 2021 to Amanda Batula

Carl adds insult to injury

Honestly, I was livid. The downgrade was a gross, an overinflated sense of ego, especially after all that Kyle has done for Carl. The former Loverboy employee noted, “I want Kyle there, but I also have to play ball with my wife.” No, Carl, you don’t. Not when your ex-fiance is acting like the Queen of Hearts, going around yelling, “Off with their heads.” The way Carl said flower boy in his mocking tone was Carl’s way of forcing the situation to be weirder than it needed it to be. If Carl really wanted Kyle to be the groomsman, he should have had an actual conversation with Lindsay.

A part of me felt like Carl was putting words into Lindsay’s mouth. Especially when trying to explain his choice. It was then I started to question how legitimate the accusations against Lindsay were. Were most of his confessionals filmed after the breakup? If so, why not just admit he also didn’t want Kyle standing by his side? The entire conversation with the Loverboy founder felt harsh. Was Carl actually taking a moment to slowly drive the knife into Kyle regarding their friendship?

Kyle is a good friend

When it comes to Carl, Kyle threw him a lifeline when it came to letting him work for Loverboy. We haven’t forgotten he was fired multiple times before. Kyle didn’t want to see his best friend struggle. Kyle witnessed firsthand Carl’s lack of work ethic; he knew that Carl just needed someone to believe in him. Without a doubt, Carl became a better person when working on Loverboy. It very much feels like Carl bit the hand that fed him.

Kyle is always great at making everyone feel included and respected within the home, Carl included. He is the first to post a birthday shoutout for everyone. Kyle may not always be the most mature, but he is definitely a great friend to have on your side. If I were a betting woman, I would think Kyle would feel a bit taken advantage of. I’m still flabbergasted that Carl had the audacity to make the only guy to give him multiple chances a demotion. Kyle employed you at his company when no one would take you as a flower boy. Ouch, Kyle, that’s got to hurt!

But Kyle took the news like a champ. Saying, “Does this feel like a bit of a demotion coming from best man and officiant at my wedding? Yeah. But like, at the end of the day he needs my support. I’m not going to question anything. I’ll be the best damn flower boy he’s ever seen.” You’re a better human then I because I would have burned this bridge with lighter fluid.
