Netflix has another dating show called Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark to add to their reality TV roster. The new Netflix dating show is hosted by Chloe Veitch, a superstar of the Netflix Reality Universe (or NRU). Chloe Veitch previously appeared on Too Hot To Handle Season 1, The Circle Season 2, and Perfect Match Season 1. So, she’s very familiar with the world of Netflix dating series. However, Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark is different than those other series. In fact, the new series may be Netflix’s riskiest dating show yet. And here’s why.
What is Netflix dating show Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark about?
To start, what is the “sneaky link” the title of this new Netflix dating show refers to? It means someone you’re hooking up with in secret, instead of publicly dating. The trailer defines a sneaky link as a “long-term booty call without the commitment.” Or, as host Chloe explains, “a sneaky link is a guaranteed quick bunk up … and they’re scared of the c-word: commitment.”
In this new dating series, guests check in to the Sneaky Links Motel. I’m sure you’re already associating that kind of setting with some secret rendezvous. But these sexy singles (or not quite singles) aren’t all strangers. Instead, as host Chloe says in the trailer, contestants are brought to the motel along with “the person you love having casual sex with.”
This allows the contestants with a history of hooking up the chance to get to know each other better. They’ll be able to see if casually hooking up can turn into a more committed relationship. However, the contestants’ dating pool isn’t limited to their sneaky link. Instead, they are also free to explore connections with the other contestants.
Why Sneaky Links could be Netflix’s riskiest reality TV dating series
Think of Sneaky Links as Temptation Island, but even riskier. That’s saying a lot, considering all the drama Temptation Island brings.
Judging from the trailer, contestants are expected to meet complete strangers, instead of hook-ups from their past and present. Almost instantly, they know that things are about to get very messy. One contestant straight up calls it a “disaster.”
As part of the show’s format, contestants have to watch their casual hookups date other people. And it’s clear that some contestants have stronger feelings for their “long-term booty calls” than they may have thought before entering the motel. While the series starts out with six girls and six guys, some later arrivals will also cause drama. And one late-arriving girl gets singled out in the trailer. As one contestant puts it, “Kelsey didn’t only step on my toes, she came for my neck.”
The format and challenges of this show are also designed to be as risky and risque as possible. Once contestants arrive at the hotel, they get “overnight phone privileges.” This allows them to call any other guest and ask for a late-night hookup. I have a feeling the other guests at the motel are going to catch their fellow contestants sneaking around trying to go into each other’s rooms.
How Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark stands out from other Netflix dating shows
Like some of Netflix’s other reality TV series, Sneaky Links: Dating After Dark serves as a social experiment. The trailer announces that Sneaky Links is a particularly provocative type of experiment.
The Sneaky Links Motel isn’t the same type of location as the pods from Love Is Blind. And that’s not the only difference between these shows. Instead of deep conversations, expect some saucy challenges that aren’t G-rated. Unlike contestants of Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum, these Sneaky Links aren’t exactly looking for marriage. And unlike Too Hot To Handle, hookups aren’t penalized … they’re encouraged.
Host Chloe is joined by dating and relationship expert Spicy Mari. Contestants will regularly have “Link Lowdown” meetings with Chloe and Spicy Mari. During a Link Lowdown, contestants will discuss the current status of their dating life. Chloe and Spicy Mari will be there to guide them along the way. After all, as a relationship expert, Spicy Mari will have plenty of advice and observations. But expect these Link Lowdowns to produce some tough conversations. In fact, they may lead to Spicy Mari deciding a contestant got all they can out of this experiment. And, if that’s the case, the contestants have to leave the motel.
Remaining contestants will have to decide if they want to hard launch a relationship. If not, they’ll choose to exit the motel alone. Unlike some Netflix dating shows, we won’t have to wait weeks between episodes to see how this experiment pans out. Instead, all 10 episodes are available to stream on May 21.
