As Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys continues, Steve McBee’s federal case looms over his head. He pled guilty to defrauding the United States Department of Agriculture via an insurance scam. Now, he’s facing some serious jail time.
The McBee Dynasty FBI investigation: How long will Steve McBee go to prison for?
Steve McBee could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, the maximum sentence for the one count of federal crop insurance fraud, for which he pled guilty.
According to court documents, Steve submitted insurance claims to a company called Rain and Hail, where he grossly underreported his soybean and corn yields. That resulted in him receiving federal subsidies and insurance benefits. The feds said his actions caused a loss of over $4 million.
Steve is 53, so a 30-year prison sentence could mean spending the rest of his life in jail. However, he doesn’t have any prior convictions, which means he’ll likely end up with a lesser sentence. Who knows — maybe he’ll take a note from the Chrisley family and start begging the POTUS for a pardon.
His sentencing was originally scheduled for June 26. Per a motion for continuance reviewed by the Kansas City Star, his attorneys asked for a little bit more time to help build a case to get him the lightest sentence possible.
“Counsel, in part due to the demands of other matters and in part due to the complexities of this matter, requires additional time to properly prepare financial and sentencing materials for the Probation Office and the Court,” defense attorney Jeffrey D. Morris wrote.
He continued, “The June sentencing date does not permit the timely and accurate completion of the work required to properly present the information to the United States Probation Office and the Court. A September setting would adjust the schedule for the presentence report and substantive briefing on sentencing matters.”
Thus, the feds rescheduled his sentencing hearing to September 9. That means Steve will at least be able to watch all of Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty from the comfort of his own. Season 3 might be a different story.
