Recently, Swift took to Instagram to share a series of alternate covers for The Life of the Showgirl. One of the last photos, showing Swift in a skin-colored, bejeweled bikini with feather accents, instantly caught fans’ attention. She also struck a glamorous showgirl pose, with one leg lifted and arms spread wide.
Her caption read, “And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album, The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3.” In the image, fans noticed that the singer didn’t shy away from revealing her belly button, something she often avoids showcasing. Fans, who quickly noticed this detail, took to social media to revisit the old belly button topic.
One fan wrote, “imagine explaining to a normal person how significant it is that Taylor Swift showed her belly button in a photo of her album art.” Another recalled old times when fans used to joke about her belly button not existing. They wrote, “remember when we all joked about how taylor didn’t have a belly button bc it never saw the light of day….. oh how far we’ve come since then.”
Early on, there were bizarre theories that Swift might not have a belly button. But in an interview with Lucky Magazine, Swift set the record straight on the belly button drama. She said, “When you start showing your belly button, then you’re really committing to the midriff thing,” the pop icon said. “I only partially commit to the midriff thing – you’re only seeing lower rib cage. I don’t want people to know if I have one or not.” She further added, “I want that to be a mystery,” teasing that no one will ever know whether she has had her belly button pierced or has a massive tattoo around it.
