Though he’s still managing to keep up with his royal duties, palace insiders are saying that King Charles is “fighting a losing battle” with his cancer.
“Charles is 76 and is now very frail,” a source revealed. “He knows the end is coming. He is now shuffling around with a cane – and [drinking] whisky to numb the pain and despair he feels … [But] he is doing his best to keep a stiff upper lip.”
Charles and his wife Queen Camilla just attended a ceremony last week for the end of World War II. He looked as well as most 76-year-old men and seemed to have no problem getting around.
King Charles is “crippled” and “using whisky to numb pain” according to the insiders
According to Radar Online, Charles has been “putting a very brave face on his pain.” A royal insider claimed, “His health has deteriorated significantly in recent months. The walking stick is more than a traditional accessory for a royal portrait – it’s become a necessity.
“The king is facing a tough, losing battle with his illness,” the insider continued, “and he turns to whisky to manage the discomfort.”
Recently the subject of a series of portraits taken at his 20,000-acre retreat at Sandringham, Charles appeared to be reliant on a wooden walking stick. That’s not unusual for a person of his age, especially outdoors. At a certain age, the risk of falling increases, so a walking stick is not necessarily a sign of decline.
Shared on the Sandringham official Instagram, the images show Charles strolling through the estate’s Topiary Garden. The meticulously-maintained garden reflects the king’s lifelong interest in horticulture, despite his current health issues.
Sandringham has long been a favorite retreat for Charles and Camilla. Queen Victoria first purchased the estate in 1862 as a twenty-first birthday present for her eldest son Bertie, who would later become King Edward VII. It has been in the royal family ever since.
Although it’s standard procedure to plan a sovereign’s funeral far in advance, details of Charles’ final goodbye seem to be much discussed these days. Details have trickled out here and there, such as who will sing at his funeral. Seating arrangements are also front and center. Apparently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who remain on the outs with the family, will be seated separately from the other royals.
