Meghan Markle Blames Taylor Swift for Stealing Her Spotlight With Viral Video, Says Source

Taylor Swift’s album announcement on the “New Heights” podcast reportedly overshadowed Meghan Markle’s Netflix push, and the latter was not happy about it. According to a recent report, the Duchess of Sussex expected the second season of “With Love, Meghan” to command the news cycle following its Tuesday release. Instead, Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” reveal dominated online conversation.

Meghan Markle ‘convinced’ Taylor Swift stole her spotlight with album announcement, says source

Racking up over 167 million views in 24 hours, Taylor Swift appeared on the “New Heights” podcast to announce her upcoming album. In an exclusive report by Rob Shuter, Meghan Markle believed Swift diverted the conversation toward herself. While Markle expected the release of “With Love, Meghan” Season 2 to dominate the media, Swift’s album announcement became the talk of the internet.

A source claimed, “Meghan thought her trailer would own the news cycle.” They added, “Then Taylor’s announcement came in like a wrecking ball. Meghan’s convinced it wasn’t just bad luck.” Shuter’s report added that the rollout landed amid a challenging backdrop for the Sussexes’ media ventures. Reportedly, Netflix has shifted the couple’s widely publicized $100 million pact into a more modest “first look” deal.

The “With Love, Meghan” trailer itself was released with limited promotion. It drew limited engagement and appeared with Instagram comments turned off. An insider told Shuter, “She saw this as her comeback moment, then Taylor took all the oxygen out of the room.”

Additionally, the timing could post further complications. Shuter noted palace gossip that Markle‘s planned holiday special may overlap with the Princess of Wales’ “Together at Christmas” concert. Hence, this would risk another round of competing royal coverage. “She’s trying to spin it as unfortunate timing,” the source claimed, adding, “But Meghan likes being the headline. This week, she wasn’t.”

For Meghan Markle, the stakes with her Netflix release remain high. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s album announcement on the “New Heights” podcast demonstrated her capacity to command media attention.
