Most of us would probably assume royals living in a $21 million country estate would have an impressive staff count. The couple have chosen to forego tradition in favor of raising their three kids with a more down-to-earth approach. Despite plans to move into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, they want to keep things normal for the children. This means no live-in staff.

This insistence on ensuring a sense of normalcy is not only designed to keep the kids well adjusted, but also seemingly to stop them becoming brats. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, the children are all expected to help around the house. “They absolutely do menial tasks. They are far more ordinary than many might imagine. The kids even have to do chores in return for their pocket money. It’s about them wanting to have a normal, happy, ordinary family home and lifestyle which, at Adelaide Cottage, they are really achieving.”

The family won’t be completely without hired help at their new residence, though. They’ll have the support of long-term nanny Teresa Turrion Borrallo, as well as a housekeeper and a gardener. Still, it seems that future monarch George and his siblings are stuck setting the table and unloading the dishwasher like the rest of us.
