KJ Apa loves being a dad and everything that comes with it. When it came time to pick a godfather for his boy, Sasha, he knew exactly what Bulldog he wanted to choose.
It’s not surprising that his pick was from among his Riverdale castmates. After all, castmates from hit television shows often become friends and stay in each other’s lives after the show has wrapped. Just look at the literal “Friends” Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox. The pair just recently went on a double date. Talk about staying friends through the years.
KJ Apa’s former Riverdale co-star Charles Melton is his son’s godfather
In KJ’s case, when he welcomed his 3-year-old son with ex Clara Berry, he shared that his Riverdale co-star Charles Melton was in the delivery room with him. And he chose Charles to become his son’s godfather.
It’s pretty cute that Reggie is the godfather to Archie’s baby. KJ shared the cute story on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. The pair also talked about the pressures of being a good dad. For KJ, there was a lot of pressure because he was still quite young and in the prime of his Riverdale fame.
But having his son really helped ground him and get him sober because it forced him to chill and get it together. “I truly believe having Sasha saved my life,” KJ shared. “I have to sacrifice all these things for you because that’s what a good parent does.”
He admitted that he got swept up in the fame that came with Riverdale and even had a bit of an identity crisis when the show wrapped. “I went through a year of having to re-gather who I was, like re-remember,” KJ admitted. “I definitely had this crisis of identity with a whole lot of other things I was going through.”
In the end, though, KJ is grateful for it all because he asked for this life. “I asked to be here, and this is what it all comes with,” KJ told Andy. “I’m grateful for it and I’m glad I went through it.”
