Kate Middleton’s royal life was not simple, as she had to come to terms with many complex rules and regulations. Recently, the 2021 book, “Philip: The Final Portrait” by royal author Gyles Brandreth, gained attention. It included details about Prince Philip, husband of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and his wise words to the then Duchess of Cambridge. He shared the “golden rule” of royalty with Prince William’s partner. It stated that she should never behave like a “celebrity.”
Kate Middleton followed Prince Philip’s advice about receiving attention as a royal, according to a book
Kate Middleton seemingly survived the training to become the perfect royal because of the elders’ advice. One of them was Prince William’s grandfather, the late Prince Philip. Hello! Magazine recently shared excerpts from Gyles Brandreth’s 2021 book, “Philip: The Final Portrait.” It was about the Duke of Edinburgh’s relationship with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, and other family members, friends, and the media.
In it, the author also mentioned how Philip shared the “golden rule” with the then-new family member, Catherine. The duke told her that she should not think that the attention she would receive as a royal was for her. If she believed that, she would “end up in trouble.”
“The attention is for your role, what you do, what you’re supporting. It isn’t for you as an individual,” Brandreth quoted him in the book. Further, he advised the Princess of Wales that she was not a “celebrity,” but represented the “Royal Family.”
According to Brandreth, Philip was like a mentor to the generation after him in the family. He was worried that fame might overwhelm new members, but was “relieved” after learning about Middleton. He found William’s wife a “level-headed girl.”
Agreeing to the author’s viewpoint, British broadcaster Helena Chard told Fox News Digital that the 43-year-old was “taught by the best.” Additionally, royal expert Hilary Fordwich also shared her thoughts with the outlet. She said, “[Philip] implored her to always focus on the role, that of dedication and duty, not on herself. That’s why she avoids seeking public attention for personal fame.”
