Prince Harry is currently in the U.K. for a series of charity engagements. At an event on Monday, the royal seemingly threw a bit of shade Prince William’s way. The pair have been estranged for years following a feud of pretty mysterious origins.
Prince Harry and Prince William are locked in a neverending rift
Harry attended the WellChild Awards on September 8. He is a patron of the charity, which recognizes the strength and achievements of seriously ill children.
The Prince spoke to the award winners at a reception before the awards ceremony. It was an interaction with a family that raised a few eyebrows. Speaking to a 17-year-old, Harry asked if his younger brother “drives [him] mad”, according to Hello. The teen told him they got along fine (Harry couldn’t relate), to which the Prince joked “You know what, siblings.”
After learning that the brothers attended the same school, Harry added: “That sometimes makes it more challenging.”
The Duke of Sussex may have been projecting. In his 2023 memoir Spare, he detailed William’s dismay at having Harry join him at Eton college. He wrote: “Willy had told me to pretend I didn’t know him. None of which was all that new. Willy always hated it when anyone made the mistake of thinking of us as a package deal.”
William also seemed to give a nod to the family feud during the summer. While chatting to soldiers at the Army Air Corps in Suffolk, the future king asked: “Is the pace of life good at the moment?”, per the Daily Mail. He added: “Families okay? See you enough? Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”
The two princes reportedly came within just eight miles of each other on Monday. There has been speculation about whether the pair will meet while Harry is in the UK. Experts have said a meeting between King Charles and the younger prince is also unlikely.
