Country superstar Reba McEntire and her Happy’s Place costar Rex Linn have put a ring on it after dating for five years. While they didn’t actually announce their engagement on the Emmys Red Carpet on September 14, they weren’t denying it either.
During an interview with E! News, reporter Zuri Hall referred to Rex as Reba’s “fiancé.”
Rather than confirming her engagement, Reba dodged the issue. “We’re having a blast on Happy’s Place, and [we’re] so glad to be here tonight,” she responded.

Following her E! News interview, Reba’s rep confirmed to Page Six that the couple is, in fact, engaged.
The couple first met on the set of the 1980 TV movie The Gambler, which starred the late Kenny Rogers. At the time, Reba was married to Narvel Blackstock, father of her adult son Shelby. She was also Kelly Clarkson’s mother-in-law during her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, Narvel’s son from a previous marriage.
But after reconnecting on Young Sheldon following her divorce from Narvel, Rex and Reba became friends. They started dating in 2020.
As part of a 40th anniversary celebration of The Golden Girls, Reba was at the Emmys to perform Thank You for Being a Friend, alongside Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman.
“It’s a show that you can watch forever,” Reba told Zuri, referring to the classis 80s TV show.
“If you’re not a fan of The Golden Girls, it would be like not liking puppies,” Rex added. In fact, he admitted that he has sometimes caught his finacée “late at night watching reruns” of the show.
When Zuri asked which character Reba most related to, she responded, “I’m more like Dorothy. I’m to-the-point, blunt.”
Rex and Reba have been open about their relationship for some time. The Fancy singer previously confirmed that she felt “truly committed” to Rex and was willing to find out if the third time is a charm. Prior to her marriage to Narvel, The Voice coach tied the knot with Oklahoma cattle rancher Charlie Battles in 1976. The couple divorced in 1987.
“Inseparable ever since June 16, 2020,” the three-time Grammy winner left the decision up to her partner when it came to marriage. “If that’s something he feels totally strong about, that’s fine with me,” she told Page Six in October 2023. “He’s never been married before. So, if he wants to experience that, I’m OK with that.”
In the same interview, Reba shared what she loves most about Rex. “He makes me laugh all the time,” she said. “That’s the best thing about our relationship. We make each other laugh.”
