Tim Allen Forgives His Father’s Killer; Credits Erika Kirk’s Speech

Erika Kirk’s speech struck a chord with Tim Allen.

The comedian knows the pain of losing a loved one in tragic circumstances. His father was killed by a drunk driver when he was only 11. Erika’s late husband, Charlie Kirk, was shot dead earlier this month during a speaking engagement in Utah.

While his death has had a polarizing effect among many because of his political views, Erika’s eulogy, however, gave Tim a change of heart regarding his dad’s death in 1964.

Tim will reprise his role as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 5, which is scheduled for release in June 2026.

It’s been over 60 years since Tim lost his father, with forgiveness the furthest thing from his mind. Erika’s powerful eulogy, however, has changed his feelings.

Her forgiveness of the man who shot and killed Charlie was a defining moment for the Home Improvement and Last Man Standing actor. “That moment deeply affected me, Tim posted on X. Tim says he’s struggled with his father’s death for decades, but upon hearing Erika’s speech is more at peace his dad’s passing. “I forgive the man who killed my father,” said Tim.

Erika’s words were met with positivity nearly across the board, with even late-night host Jimmy Kimmel praising her for her courage to forgive. ABC temporarily suspended Jimmy because of comments following her husband’s death. U.S. Vice President JD Vance has said that he would love for Jimmy to apologize to Erika for those words. That echoes the sentiments of ABC’s largest affiliate group Sinclair, who want Jimmy to issue an apology.
