Three TLC Meet the Putmans Reality Stars Die in Car Crash

Tragic news came out of the TLC universe over the weekend. Three family members from the 2017 series Meet the Putmans died in a car crash — including the family patriarch, Bill “Papa” Putman. Now, the 27 surviving family members are asking for prayers as they process the unimaginable loss.

Meet the Putmans followed Bill and his wife Barb “Neenee” Putman as they navigated life with their adult children and their children, all under one roof. When their show was airing, 25 family members were living in the same 35,000 square foot house. They even shared a bank account!

Meet the Putmans aired on TLC for one season, but the family continued telling their story on their YouTube series, Growing up Putman. The family has since grown, and their Instagram bio boasts that their home has 10 adults and 20 kids.

Sadly, as the New York Post reported, Bill, Barb, and their daughter-in-law, Megan Putman, were killed in a car crash on Friday, September 26, while driving in Cass City, Michigan, a rural area outside of Detroit. According to the police report, a semi truck blew through a stop sign and struck their Jeep.

Bill, Barb, and Megan were all pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Megan’s husband, Blake, their three kids, Lulu, Alena, and Noah, and niece Gia were rushed to the hospital. They remain in various states, and the family released a statement asking for prayers and support.

“I come to you with a heavy heart asking for your prayers,” the family wrote. “Our family was in a tragic car accident and we lost Papa, Neenee, and Aunt Megan. They have gone home to be with the Lord.”

The Putnams continued, “Please keep Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia in your prayers as they remain in the hospital, we are asking for complete healing and strength for each of them.”

On Sunday, September 28, the family shared an update, noting that Noah remained sedated in the hospital. Additionally, Gia underwent a craniotomy, and they said her care team shared encouraging news about her progress. They’re continuing to lean on faith to help get them through this.

“Thank you for all of the continued prayers, love, and support,” the family wrote. “We feel your strength and faith surrounding us.”
