Big Brother UK Gives Warning to Contestant for Homophobic Behavior

Once again, the producers on Big Brother UK have their work cut out for them. In the latest episode of the reality competition, Big Brother gave housemate George Gilbert a formal warning for homophobic comments aimed at Sam Ashby. That type of behavior doesn’t fly in this game, and we’re so glad they didn’t let this go unchecked.

The problematic comments happened during a game of Truth or Dare. George had to name his least favorite qualities about the Housemates. Instead of being reasonable, George mocked Sam’s speech and body language. The whole thing was pretty gross, so Big Brother called George into the Diary Room to set him straight.

“George, before you entered the Big Brother House, the rules regarding unacceptable language and behaviour were explained to you,” they began. “Big Brother needs to talk to you about a conversation at the dining table last night.”

Big Brother continued, “At 11:26, during a game of Truth or Dare, when asked about your least favourite qualities of other Housemates, you said the following, ‘Sam, um too…’, you then went on to mimic Sam using both noises that mocked the way Sam talks and body language that included limp wrists.”

You know, at this point, George’s heart sank right into his stomach.

Big Brother continued, “Do you understand how both your language and behaviour could be offensive to Sam, your Housemates and the viewing public?”

According to George, he and Sam did have a conversation about it. However, that’s not enough to get him off the hook. Rules are rules.

“We did have a conversation about this, Sam pulled me to one side,” George said. “I have apologised. I don’t want to make anyone feel like that, so I will be walking on eggshells around Sam from here on in.”

Big Brother replied, “George, Big Brother thinks your language was unacceptable and could cause offense and is therefore issuing you with a warning.”

With that, George received a formal warning about his conduct. Further instances of misconduct could result in him being removed from the game. For everyone’s sake, let’s hope he gets his act together.

Big Brother UK continues tonight at 9 pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
