Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett have hit back at speculation that their marriage may not be real. In a video posted to social media, the couple laugh off the rumors, stating: “Ordinary isn’t our thing.” The Norwegian royal’s relationship with the shaman has come with plenty of controversy.

In a video posted on Instagram on Monday, Märtha and Durek ask “What’s a lavender marriage?” while feigning confusion. They then “magically” change into lavender colored outfits while comments from social media users appear on screen.
One comment reads: “Girl, I don’t know if you know but you are in a lavender marriage.”
A speech bubble then appears, saying: “Ordinary isn’t our thing. We just love.”
For those not in the know, a lavender marriage is basically when two people get married to appear like a regular couple, but the relationship isn’t romantic – it’s more about keeping up appearances.
The rumors surrounding the couple’s marriage were ignited by a Netflix documentary released last month. During “Rebel Royals”, Durek reveals he is bisexual and was initially introduced to the Princess’ daughters as a gay friend.
The couple tied the knot in August 2024. However, the lavender marriage rumors are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the controversy surrounding the relationship.
Durek, a self-described shaman, has come under fire for a number of bizarre claims. The California native has suggested that he rose from the dead and childhood cancer is caused by unhappiness, per the Daily Mail. He also allegedly claimed that casual sex invites harmful spirits that affect women internally, and promotes spiritual exercises he says can remove them.
The Princess has her own out there beliefs, including that she can talk to animals and angels.
Durek’s mom has claimed that her son is manipulative and has brainwashed the Princess. The couple responded by sending her a legal notice, threatening to sue for defamation if she didn’t retract her statements.
