Britney Spears’ conservatorship sparked outrage in 2021, culminating in a trial that ultimately ended the 13-year arrangement. But according to Kevin Federline, it wasn’t actually all that bad. In his new memoir, the former backup dancer claims his ex exaggerated how restricted she really was. He adds the singer was “in no state to responsibly manage her affairs.”
Kevin Federline says Britney Spears’ conservatorship controls “weren’t as severe” as she claimed

Britney went to trial in June 2021 to end the controversial conservatorship. She claimed that she had been forced to tour, forced to take lithium, and was forbidden from removing her IUD. Her shocking claims led to the establishment of the Free Britney movement, which rallied fans worldwide to demand her freedom.
But Kevin says Britney embellished the facts when it came to the amount of control she was under. In his new book, You Thought You Knew, he says the level of control wasn’t as extreme as his ex said, and that it was a necessary “protective layer.”
Recalling a conversation he had with the couple’s sons, he writes: “When Britney claimed she was locked up and controlled, I’d ask them to reflect on the many trips she took or the freedom she had to make decisions. Yes, there were controls in place, but they weren’t as severe as she made them out to be,” reports Radar Online.
He added: “The boys needed to understand the conservatorship wasn’t some grand conspiracy. It was a response to her actions.”
Kevin was in support of the conservatorship. He wrote: “I believed it was the only way to stabilize her situation, and more importantly, provide a safer environment for our kids. Whatever the case, it was clear she was in no state to responsibly manage her affairs. She needed some form of oversight. A protective layer.”
