Going through a divorce is hard. It’s even harder when everyone around you is reading into everything you do. Keith Urban is experiencing this now amid his divorce from Nicole Kidman. He’s asking the fans to not read too much into things, specifically the lyrics he changes during some of his performances. Fans? Not reading too much into things? Sorry, Keith, you may as well ask for the moon instead of this. You have a better chance of getting it.
Keith Urban wants fans to “stop reading sh*t into” his song lyrics after his Nicole Kidman split
As it stands, fans have read heaps into everything that has happened since Keith and Nicole announced their split. Sources have claimed he is allegedly suffering from a midlife crisis, while others claim that another woman is involved.
Whichever the case may be, fans can’t help but watch Keith like a hawk. Everything he says or does these days is going to be dissected under a microscope, and the singer has had enough.
At a final stop of his High and Alive World Tour at the Nashville Bridgestone Arena, Keith made a few comments (pleas) before singing his 2002 hit, You’ll Think of Me.
“I’ve been covering like this for a long time,” the country crooner said. “Stop reading sh*t into it. It’s called, You’ll Think of Me.” He then proceeded to change the original song’s lyrics from “But you’ll think of me” to “But I betcha think about me!” He also said, “All your bullsh*t reasons” instead of “Take all your space and take your reasons.”
While that may be no big deal since he has been singing it that way for years, the reason fans were reading into things was when Keith changed the lyrics to his song The Fighter. This song was based on a conversation he had with Nicole before they were married. His utility player, Maggie Baugh, shared a clip showing him changing the song lyrics to include her name.
The lyrics are “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.” For that performance, Keith played beside Maggie and sang, ‘When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.’” Trying to get the fans to not read too much into that is going to be a Herculean task, unfortunately.
Time will tell if any of the fan theories are correct.
