There was a time when it seemed that all anyone could talk about was the Real Housewives. It was quotable, funny, and drama-filled. Plus, watching the Bravo franchises was the perfect way to relax and unwind. Then, along came The Traitors.
The competition series, stacked with reality stars and other celebrities, was like nothing fans had seen before. The Peacock series combined strategy, manipulation, physical challenges, and a big pot of money at the end. And the charming and fashionable host, Alan Cumming, made the Scottish Highlands seem glamorous. Plenty of housewives have lurked within those castle walls.
A network source claims the Real Housewives feel they’re “treated like second-class citizens”
So, now that NBCUniversal, Bravo’s parent company, has reportedly shifted more of its budget to The Traitors, the casts of the Real Housewives franchises are allegedly feeling the heat. “The housewives feel abandoned. They were the crown jewels, but now everyone upstairs only wants to talk about The Traitors,” a source told RadarOnline. “The message is clear – the housewives are history.”
A second insider claimed, “They built Bravo into what it is. Now they’re treated like second-class citizens while Peacock gets all the love.” Meanwhile, a third source downplayed the chatter. “You think only one show across all of NBCU gets attention?”
Of course, Bravo announced four new shows: Ladies of London, along with Real Housewives of Rhode Island, and The Valley: Persian Style, which is a spinoff of Shahs of Sunset. They also created the hilarious Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition. So, it seems that the housewives still have some legs.
However, among all the Bravo shows that earned a renewal, Real Housewives of New Jersey and Real Housewives of New York were not listed. Casting is reportedly underway for both series, which had been paused amid declining ratings and alleged problems among the casts.
