Trailer Park Boys Star Mike Smith Charged With Sexual Assault in Canada

The co-star of one of Canada’s most popular mockumentaries is in trouble with the law.

Mike Smith played Bubbles on the show The Trailer Park Boys. The show ran for 12 seasons. It follows Bubbles, Julian, and Ricky in the Sunnyvale Trailer Park as they perform petty crimes to make money while evading the police.

Mike is facing sexual assault charges in an alleged incident which took place in 2017. The last season of the show came out in March 2018. Several movies were made featuring Mike and the Sunnyvale residents while the show was on TV.

News of Mike’s alleged actions comes as a blow to the franchise. The show will be returning to the airwaves in April. In documents obtained by CBC News, they say the comedian is facing a sexual assault on October 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The news outlet reports that the alleged incident occurred in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, in 2017. Mike cannot contact the alleged victim, whose name has not been released due to a publication ban.

A statement by Trailer Park Boys Inc., which oversees the show’s production, says, “We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take such matters seriously.” They say out of respect for the legal process, they won’t comment further on the case.

Mike has stepped away from his role at Trailer Park Boys Inc. The rights to the series were purchased by Mike and his two co-stars, Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay, in 2013.

In light of these allegations against Mike, the production company says, “We remain focused on delivering the long-awaited 13th season for our fans.”

This isn’t the first time Mike has been in legal trouble. In 2016, Mike had a misdemeanour domestic battery charge. It stemmed from an alleged incident in a Hollywood hotel. Those charges were dropped after Mike and the victim denying the allegations.

Several celebrities appeared on the Trailer Park Boys including Snoop Dogg. The rapper is in some hot water himself for some recent homophobic comments.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office also stated a lack of sufficient evidence in Mike’s case.

Mike is due to appear in court in Halifax on Monday.
