Prince William Reveals ‘Tense Issue’ With Son Prince George

Prince William has been juggling plenty at home as his family settles into Forest Lodge in Windsor. He and Kate Middleton have talked about attempting a steady routine for their children while also balancing school activities, royal duties, and travel.

William recently spent time in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize awards, discussing both his environmental projects and what life looks like at home. During one of his conversations, the topic shifted to parenting and technology, and William admitted that one long-standing rule has started to cause tension with 12-year-old Prince George.

While speaking at the awards with host Luciano Huck, William explained how he and Kate manage digital access in their household. Kate also recently highlighted the issue of screen time in her own work, warning that it fuels an “epidemic of disconnection.”

William explained, “Our children don’t have phones. I think when George moves on to secondary school, then maybe he might have a phone that has no internet access.”

William said he finds it difficult to shield his children from the risks of the online world. He shared that it’s “really hard” to protect kids from social media. He also acknowledged that the issue has become strained at home. “And to be honest, it’s getting to the point where it’s becoming a little bit of a like tense issue,” he said.

Still, he believes George understands their reasoning. William continued, “We communicate why we don’t think it’s right. And again, I think it’s the internet access I have a problem with. I think children can access too much stuff they don’t need to see online. And so having a phone and text message, the old sort of ‘brick phone’ as they call them, I think that’s fine.”

William also shared a lighter snapshot of everyday life, where it seems they try their hardest for a sense of normalcy. He joked that he works as a “taxi driver.” Surprisingly, he and Kate handle school runs, drop-offs, and weekend activities. When asked if he takes the children to school, William replied, “Oh, yeah. School run most days. I mean, Catherine and I share it. She probably does the bulk of them.”
