There’s a new face in the Below Deck Mediterranean crew! After Captain Sandy Yawn had to fire two of the deckhands, they had to scramble to get the Bravado fully staffed for the next charter. That’s where Cathy Skinner comes into play. The new stew arrived with a lot of experience and a commitment to being “extra.”
Cathy Skinner joined Below Deck Mediterranean Season 10
On Below Deck Med Season 10 Episode 5, Sandy had to kick two of the deckhands to the curb after their lack of experience created several safety issues. You know Sandy doesn’t let that kind of thing slide.
After the firings, Sandy transferred Victoria SanJuan to the deck crew and hired Cathy to cover the open role in the interior. Although she’s filling the role of third stew on this charter, she brings chief stew experience from other yachts.
“I’m the epitome of a yacht stew because I am bossy, organized, I’m a clean freak, but I’m also super glamorous,” Cathy quipped in her first confessional in Episode 7. “With me, it’s extra or nothing at all.”
Cathy first made the jump to yachting after spending several years as a surgical dental nurse. However, nursing life wasn’t for her. After enduring a spinal injury that required emergency surgery, she had a wake-up call. She realized she couldn’t continue with nursing. She needed something more interesting.
“I had a lot of friends in yachting already because I grew up on the Isle of Wight,” Cathy added. “I came in really strong-minded. Like, I’m really career-driven and money-driven, and I came in with like, ‘I’m gonna be a chief stew in two years.’ And I’ve done it.”
Of course, as soon as Cathy walked onto the boat, her looks caught the attention of Joe Bradley and Max Salvador. Joe said that the “absolutely stunning” stew reminded him of Mary Poppins. Stay tuned to see if she brought a magic bag onto the Bravado.
