Jeff Bezos Is CEO Again — But For AI Project

Reports suggest that the company has already landed $6.2 billion in initial funding. They are planning to create AI tools that can work in the physical world.

Jeff Bezos reportedly announces an AI Project

According to the New York Times’ sources, Jeff Bezos is joining Project Prometheus. It has launched with $6.2 billion in backing. The sources say that these funds will make the project one of the most well-financed startups in the world. The company is reportedly focusing on AI systems that can assist with engineering and manufacturing across fields such as computers, aerospace, and automobiles. These areas align with Bezos’ long-standing interest in space as well as advanced hardware.

Project Prometheus will see Jeff Bezos in the chief executive role, along with Vik Bajaj. He is a physicist and chemist who helped found Verily and Foresight Labs. Bajaj has experience in the tech fields and projects that will serve the company’s goals. They are hoping to move past text-based AI and create systems that can learn from physical experiments and the real world.

As of right now, the NYT’s report has revealed that Project Prometheus has hired almost 100 employees. They have landed talent from major AI organisations such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. This hiring push will help the company build the basic blocks of its AI model.

The start-up has also joined a variety of companies that are also trying to use AI in physical tasks. Projects like Periodic Labs and Thinking Machines Lab are also aiming to pair machine learning with large-scale lab automation and scientific discovery.

If successful, Project Prometheus by Jeff Bezos will stand as a competition to established tech giants who are focusing on developing their AIs.
