The US Labor Department has released an AI-generated poster casting Donald Trump as a mafia boss. The image, styled after The Godfather, labels the president “The Jobfather” and claims America is enjoying a manufacturing revival.

On Wednesday, the department posted several tweets declaring the nation “in the middle of a manufacturing renaissance.” It accompanied these claims with a photo that shows Donald Trump in a pose reminiscent of Marlon Brando’s famous character.
Official data contradicts this narrative. Manufacturing employment has fallen by at least 75,000 positions since Trump returned to office. Some estimates place the figure closer to 100,000 lost jobs over the past year. The manufacturing boom the president promised has not materialised.
Unemployment has risen from 4% when Trump took power to 4.2% in June. That number actually dropped slightly from 4.3% in May, but it is reportedly attributed to people abandoning their job searches rather than finding work. The labour force participation rate fell to 61.5% in June, which is the lowest level since March 2021. Pandemic restrictions suppressed that earlier figure. According to CNBC, excluding the Covid era, the rate has not been this low since 1976. Donald Trump previously sacked the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics after a jobs report showed slowing economic growth.
Critics responded to “the Jobfather” poster. Senate Democrats created their own version showing Trump asleep, titled “The Nodfather.”
Anti-Trump Republican organisation The Lincoln Project cited the very Labor Department data used to justify the original post. “Since his re-election, we’ve lost 75,000 manufacturing jobs and $60 Billion in annual factory construction,” the group stated on X. “Over the same period, Biden had created 625,000.”
Dr. Robert Shapiro, who served as undersecretary of commerce under Bill Clinton, told AlterNet that Trump’s tariffs have created damaging economic uncertainty. “It’s about uncertainty,” he said. “Every investment is based on an assessment of the likely future demand for whatever you’re investing in, and how much it’s going to cost to produce it.”
Polling shows 63% of Americans oppose the tariffs. Despite this, the Labor Department continues to promote the “Jobfather” photo of Donald Trump.
