Has OC Darling Gretchen Rossi been caught in another lie? Rumors hit the web last week that the Real Housewivew of Orange County star was lying about creating her make up line and more importantly, she was accused of lying about the Jeff Beitzel Foundation she claimed to have created on behalf of her late fiance, Jeff Beitzel.
There was only one problem, no one could find out any proof that such a foundation existed, causing Gretchen to go on her facebook page and defend herself. She claimed, “The Jeff Beitzel Memorial Fund is with the Leukemia Society in O.C.! People can make donations 2 this fund directly by writing “For the Jeff Beitzel Memorial Fund.”
There’s only one problem however. The Jeff Beitzel Foundation does in fact NOT exist with the Leukemia Soceity in O.C. How do we know that? Well that comes directly from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. One of our savvy readers, Help Me Rhonda, decided to email the Leukemia Society, inquiring about the foundation, and the response she received is below -
“It appears there was a misunderstanding about the establishment of a “Jeff Bietzel Memorial Fund.” or a “Jeff Bietzel Foundation.” The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has not set up a fund in Jeff Bietzel’s name. Any donations sent to LLS in honor of Jeff Bietzel will be used to support LLS’s mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.”
So basically the Jeff Beitzel Foundation Gretchen claimed to have created does NOT exist. And Gretchen has claimed via multiple media outlets that she created this foundation.
Back in January, the OC star wrote on her bravo blog – “Download the song on iTunes, and proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Jeff Beitzel Foundation I started in Jeff’s honor.”
And then the following was also written on her myspace page – “Gretchen has decided that she will be donating proceeds from the release of this song to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Jeff Beitzel Foundation she has created.“
Note the key words used, she claimed she “started” the Jeff Beitzel Foundation in her Bravo blog, and then claimed she “created” the foundation on her myspace page. Not sure why Gretchen feels the need to lie or embellish something like this. She should have just said, proceeds from her song will be donated to the Leukemia Society in honor in Jeff. This isn’t the first time the OC star has been caught in a lie. She first denied ever being romantically involved with Jay Photoglou, before incriminating photos of the duo were leaked all over the web.

UPDATE #2 – The following statement was issued by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) :
“In conversations that took place last year between Gretchen Rossi and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) there was a miscommunication concerning the establishment of a Jeff Beitzel Memorial Fund. A fund has not been set up by LLS and we apologize for any embarrassment this may have caused Miss Rossi. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will work with Miss Rossi to identify a researcher who will be named in Jeff Beitzel’s memory. The funds previously raised and any additional funds , such as those that may be forthcoming from the sale of Miss Rossi’s song on iTunes, will be used to help support the LLS mission. LLS appreciates the effort put forth by Miss Rossi.”

Yes, FB has disabled my profile. I actually posted to the mogul once telling her she had pretty hair (she used to) and I asked what products she used. I only have two “friends” on FB (aunt and cousin) and I have never posted to them. Honestly I am not even real sure how FB works and have only gone on to read others’ comments.
There are entire FB pages devoted to bashing music mogul and mr big brands with just horrid comments yet I make one TRUE PROVABLE remark and buh by me!
But since mogul and big brands are gone, too maybe they are checking into something…

Help Me Rhonda: Do you think that maybe you could send copies of the e-mails to some magazines, like Star and People? I don’t know if BRAVO will respond to a single e-mail, but if the story becomes major news, they may be forced to address the issue.
Why do you care so much what Gretchen does? The housewives is just a TV show, for entertainment. It’s not like she running for office or has the power to influence our lives. It seems like you look for any statement she makes you look for evidence against it. I could understand if Gretchen stole your man or took your money that you would have it end for her. She actually IS “influencing our lives” when people buy things she sells and donate to causes she claims to be collecting funds for under very false pretenses.
She could easily clear this up if she would admit lying and stealing and defrauding people who bought her song FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THE $$ GOING TO A CHARITY THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE FAKE or actually really give ALL THE DONATED FUNDS TO LLS.ORG.

I don’t like or dislike Gretchen but I will admit she’s a big phony. She just doesn’t add up. I think why people point out her “lies” or whatever you want to call them is because she tries to represent herself as a different person. OMG Facebook , MYspace, and Twitter are you serious. How many people do you think are posting lies about themselves on these messaging sites. Bravo could care less since the more drama going on the housewives personal life the more revenue they rake in from ratings. ITunes is another one who could care less it doesn’t mater to them as long as they get their payment. I doubt her auto tuned song is making the millions or even thousands of revenue to make a serious matter (I think even Kims’s catchy TFTP did better). The only thing on your list that might have an impact is LLS.org and they don’t seem to be doing a lot (that I know of) to stop her from using the foundation name. But come on people need to use common sense who on how to give money for these causes. Give to them directly and then you know where the funds are sent to.(sometimes that may not even be the case) but that another topic. I believe Gret is a liar, but it just not worth my time or most people to keep investigating something that keep getting proven over and over.

Again if you are dumb enough to give to a cause or use a product just because a reality tv not even a celerbrity use it or sells. It show how far off a person is. I have never purchase something based on a celebrity endorsement. It like looking up to a celebrity instead of your parents or teachers. My viewpoint is different because I don’t believe any of these fake housewives nor who I buy anything from them. I really don’t take anything they do, say, or sell seriously.

While lying is not cool, it is also not a crime. She stole money using her “celebrity” and that is my issue and her crime.
I dont buy things based on any endorsement. I have to be satisfied that I like it/want it not because some nitwit is hawking it.
People are so leery to donate to worthy causes that her doing this is very harmful to LLS because now knowing that the foundation/fund she claims to have set up was fraudulent people may be hesitant to donate any many worthwhile organizations rely heavily or completely on donations and positive press.

This is an example of the meaness or should I say stupidity when a different opinion is made.
Here is another possibility. LLS could still be receiving all of the funds but just using them for the general LLS fund as was described in the email. i.e., if the funds come to them designated the “Jeff Beetezl Foundation” they simply go into their main fund. This could be totally innocent.

I was notified 3/31/10 that the whole thing is a sham and I passed along the info. I feel my “job” is done.
