FORMER Real Housewives of Orange County star Braunwyn Windham-Burke is probably having the best and worst week of her life, considering all the attention she’s getting. She and Kelly Dodd were (finally) fired from the show alongside Elizabeth Lyn Vargas. And Kelly is putting Boringwyn on blast, blaming her for their exit. Typical Kelly, not seeing how her horrible behavior turned the fans all the way off, especially after last season. And while Braunwyn is definitely NOT taking the news well, she knows better than anyone that any press is good press.
Braunwyn, in the meantime, has been saying yes to any and every interview she’s asked to do, to milk the end of her RHOC 15-minutes of fame. She was upset to get the boot after she wanted to show herself as a “different person” next year. Sounds like she had plenty of plans to continue to turn her life upside down for TV. And to make matters worse for her, it’s rumored that Brauny’s old BFF is taking her spot on the show. That’s gotta hurt the paparazzi-loving mom of seven.
It’s clear after Season 15 of the Real Housewives of Orange County that some major shake-ups need to happen in the OC. Whether it was Kelly Dodd’s utter lack of self-awareness or Braunwyn Windham-Burke’s habit of causing complete chaos in the lives of anyone in her orbit, the show has taken a turn for the toxic. No wonder Bravo execs have been taking their time to figure out the direction of the show for Season 16, which hopefully will come with a return of Fancy Pants Heather Dubrow and the ultimate pot-stirrer Tamra Judge. They’re the only two who can fix this mess.
In my humble opinion, RHOC started going downhill once Kelly came in hot with her explosive and aggressive behavior. And the addition of BoringWin only made it worse. Season 15 really was the Braunwyn show, which is probably exactly how she liked it. She continued to talk about her sobriety any chance she got, even though she has no problem accusing her co-stars of being alcoholics. She came to terms with her sexuality, sort of, by announcing she was a lesbian who wanted to stay married to her
meal ticket baby daddy Sean Burke while having a girlfriend on the side. Things only escalated as the season went on, culminating with a reunion that exposed Braunwyn’s bad behavior, self-absorption and tendency to tell lies as often as she breathes air.
Slade Smiley and Gretchen Rossi have a long history with the Real Housewives of Orange County. And for both of them, their prior relationships were focal story lines, until they started dating each other in 2009. Slade was featured in the premiere season of RHOC, by proxy of his relationship with Jo De La Rosa. At the time, he was a very eligible bachelor and riding high with a top paying job. Jo’s tagline for Season 1 said it all, “he’s pretty much keeping me.” But his fortune turned with the market crash in 2007. Since then, he struggled with employment and paying off debts pertaining to child support.
Slade tried to stay relevant on RHOC by briefly dating Lauri Waring, before he and Gretchen got together. Rather than put attention into seeking employment, Slade bickered with costars Vicki Gunvalson and Tamra Judge. Gretchen was the bread-winner since the beginning of their relationship and said she would never marry Slade until he paid off his debts. Well, apparently Gretchen is sticking to it because Slade has yet to deal with his financial obligations. And though the two are clearly committed to each other after 11 years together, an engagement, and welcoming a daughter, Skylar, in July of 2019, they still haven’t tied the knot.
Can we agree that the fakest Bravo proposal was when Gretchen Rossi proposed to Slade Slimy Smiley on a helipad? Slade was broke (remember, he asked the jeweler to put an “imitation stone” in the ring setting?). In order to lock down some Season 9 income (spoiler: they didn’t), Slade and Gretchen manufactured an elaborate proposal. That proposal consisted of Marilyn Monroe cosplay, a song by Gretchen, a helicopter, and totally authentic declarations of love. Why the trip down memory lane?
Well, Watch What Happens Live gifted us with a week-long special that celebrated past and present Bravolebrities. The “Blasts From the Past” special was dedicated to former housewives. Taylor Armstrong, Phaedra Parks, Jill Zarin, Adriana de Moura, and Jacqueline Laurita joined Gretchen on WWHL to spill some tea and grill Andy Cohen.
The Real Housewives of Orange County has undergone a dramatic change from its first seasons that put Real Housewives on the map. Vicki Gunvalson, the OG of the OC, is out, and left kicking and screaming along the way. Can you really blame Bravo after her involvement in the Brooks Ayers cancer scam? Her best amiga Tamra Judge left with her, even though they both seem like they’d pick up their oranges in a heartbeat if production asked. Long gone are the days of fancy pants Heather Dubrow and getting naked wasted with Gretchen Rossi. And after the mess of Season 15, it’s obvious the show needs to make a change for it to be as good as the old days.
Even though Vicki is gone, she’s never forgotten. Or maybe, she doesn’t let us forget her. That’s why the OG kid of the Real Housewives Briana Culberson recently appeared on a special kids version of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Briana is all grown up, a mommy of three and continues to be Vicki’s voice of reason.
The premier of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 is just around the corner. Thanks to alleged fraudster Erika
Chahoy Girardi Jayne, we actually might have a show on our hands. Erika joined the franchise in 2015, but this will be her first time with a storyline. Congrats, Erika! Sutton Stracke will finally hold a diamond and give fashion advice on pleated leather pants. We’ll also see two relatively new faces.
Crystal Kung Minkoff is coming on board and rumor has it, she won’t be a wallflower. Because wallflowers wilt in Beverly Hills. Kathy Hilton is an enigma, wrapped in Valentino and actual cash. She’s also Kyle Richards’ older sister who doesn’t take any of Kyle’s shit. Recently RHOBH alum Taylor Armstrong spoke on Kathy’s new gig and hinted it might not be all puppies and bags of diamonds between Kath and Kyle this season.
It sounds like the Battle of the Brain Cells is going down during a break in filming Real Housewives of Orange County. It certainly isn’t rare for women no longer appearing on a show to comment needlessly about their former gig. It’s also the #3 rule in a non-existent handbook that former stars must not speak well of the current cast in any manner. This is most likely because they didn’t leave they show voluntarily and instead found themselves the victim of being #firedbybravo.
So it makes sense that Gretchen Rossi’s name dusted off the dirt and decided to come out and play. Recently Gretch was on a podcast, god bless the podcast host who remembered her, and decided to speak on Braunwyn Windham-Burke. Yes, Braunwyn has done the most and a lot of viewers found her distasteful, but the one thing Braunwyn has going for her is at least she isn’t… Gretchen. After calling Braunwyn inauthentic and claiming not to “understand her sexuality”, Braunwyn has a response. This would be a good time for Gretchen to pack for Bass Lake.
What can we say about Season 15 of Real Housewives of Orange County? It was boring. Braunwyn Windham-Burke was the center of the show. She revealed that she was an alcoholic, and RHOC viewers watched her begin her sobriety journey.
Then she announced that she was a lesbian and began dating a woman. She was still married to her husband, Sean Burke, and the couple planned to stay hitched. They have seven children together, but this situation is complicated. And Braunwyn stated that she would “be heartbroken” if Sean began dating other women.
