NBC Cancels NeNe Leakes’ Sitcom The New Normal

Well, it's a good thing that NeNe Leakes has I Dream of NeNe to fall back on in light of NBC's latest announcement.  The network is canceling the Ryan Murphy created sitcom The New Normal after its first season.

While I found the show about a gay couple and their surrogate and her family to be quirky and funny, it garnered some controversy due to its subject matter.  NeNe played the plucky side-kick Rocky.

It was fun to see NeNe stretch her acting chops as opposed to stirring the pot on Real Housewives of AtlantaDeadline reports that NBC has put the kibosh on most of its comedies, with The New Normal being the last to fall.

Even with its GLAAD Award, the show wasn't able to make the cut.  It's viewership was extremely loyal, but it didn't attract big numbers.  In fact, the only shows returning to NBC's comedy line-up are Community and Parks & Recreation.

It's probably a blessing in disguise for the Neenster…who can handle three shows?
