It’s not every day that a Housewife walks away from the limelight on their own accord. Let’s just say these roles attract a certain time of fame-seeker. But, there are exceptions to every rule.
Following her single-season appearance in season 11 of Real Housewives of Atlanta, Shamari DeVoe made it very clear to her fans and critics that she was NOT fired from the franchise. Instead, the singer who was brought on by her pal Kandi Burruss decided to leave the show on her own. If you blinked, you may have missed Shamari’s time on RHOA. Personally? I adored her.
Claudia Jordan is the one that got away when it comes to Real Housewives of Atlanta. She shook up the cast dynamics, and wasn’t afraid to take anyone on. She definitely wouldn’t have served up a pandemic wedding storyline, thats for sure. Even following her departure from the show, this one keeps the RHOA cast in check on the regular.
Claudia has been known to call out the likes of NeNe Leakes in the past. What, like it’s hard? NeNe has done some insanely egregious things. Most recently, it was comparing herself to both Beyoncé and McDonalds in the same rant. The fuck?
No one can deny that Season 11 of Real Housewives of Atlanta was a tough one for NeNe Leakes and her husband, Gregg Leakes. NeNe ripped up Cynthia Bailey’s friendship contract because Cynthia was hanging with Kenya Moore.
NeNe was infuriated when RHOA co-stars Kandi Burruss and Porsha Williams ventured into NeNe’s closet against her wishes. Worst of all, Gregg announced in June of 2018 that he was battling stage 3 colon cancer.
This is the news absolutely no one wants and it’s during times like this you wonder, why do bad things happen to good people? In 2018, Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes discovered her husband Gregg Leakes had stage 3 colon cancer. Season 11 was not an easy one for NeNe and Gregg’s diagnosis probably had a lot to do with it.
NeNe was constantly frustrated and clearly on edge, which is normal under the circumstances, but sometimes NeNe’s grace took a left turn. Cancer impacted Gregg’s health and his marriage, but he fought hard and found himself in remission. In May 2019, NeNe announced Gregg was cancer free and the couple celebrated, thinking the fight was over. Unfortunately, life has a way of kicking you in the face when you least expect it and NeNe just shared Gregg’s cancer has returned.
Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Season 13 wasn’t all that. There are rumors that a cast shake-up may be in the works, and honestly, the franchise needs it.
Cynthia Bailey was involved in some of the action this season. Her dungeon-themed bachelorette party, which was thrown by RHOA co-star Kandi Burruss, featured stripper Bolo. And Porsha Williams and Tanya Sam were alleged to have spent some sexy private time with Bolo.
Looking back, Cynthia Bailey has had quite a run on the Real Housewives of Atlanta. She’s filmed eleven seasons, two weddings (well, one officially filmed by Bravo) and a whole lot of drama in the NeNe Leakes department. She managed a spot alongside Kenya Moore on the upcoming Real Housewives All-Stars spinoff, which has to royally piss off NeNe. But looking back at Season 13, even though she got married to Mike Hill, 50 Cynt was on the sidelines most of the time. But her dungeon-themed bachelorette party did give us #Bologate, but that’s about it.
Whenever a Real Housewives city is in between seasons, it always sparks conversation about who will return. And when it comes to RHOA, it seems like it might be Cynthia’s time. She hasn’t had a lot of drama since Peter Thomas and NeNe exited her life. She started her Housewives’ career with a wedding and if she doesn’t return next season, she would have ended with one too. And she recently removed #RHOA from her Instagram bio, sparking those annual rumors that she’s headed on her way out.
I firmly believe there is literally nothing Kandi Burruss can’t do. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star is a singer, songwriter, producer, restauranteur, actor, businesswoman, philanthropist — the list goes on. She’s also a badass mom and wife to Todd Tucker, and they are the definition of a power couple. Even though some people (*cough cough* NeNe Leakes) question Kandi’s career or come up, she remains unbothered and always finds a way to make her coin. The moral is don’t start none with Kandi and there won’t be none. Hear that, Phaedra Parks?
Season 13 of RHOA showed me that while I love Kandi, she might be beyond the show. While she used to get in blow-up fights with the cast, now she seems calm and collected. Well, unless you’re messing with her food. She doesn’t seem to hold grudges, forgiving Porsha Williams after all their history. She knows the definition of girl code and could teach Kenya Moore a thing or two about loyalty. Plus, she’s the Mistress Angel and has always been true to who she is on the show, through the good times and the bad. (Those rough days of Todd vs. Mama Joyce have stuck with me).
The Real Housewives of Atlanta has really undergone a transformation over the past few seasons, mostly due to NeNe Leakes‘ dramatic exit. NeNe’s final season on the show was a letdown considering her OG status. She barely appeared in episodes and fought with everyone in her path. Well, accept her No. 1 sidekick Marlo Hampton. She ditched the Zoom reunion never to return and has called for fans to boycott Bravo since her hasty exit.
NeNe is as skilled at being a reality TV personality as she is bad at being a good friend. She’s burned a lot of bridges throughout her time on RHOA because she’s the queen of shade, even if she takes it too far. Particularly, her decades-long friendship with Cynthia Bailey crashed and burned over 50 Cynt’s relationship with Kenya Moore. And we thought 50 Cynt was the weird friend with her contracts. The two made up, sort of, but haven’t stopped throwing shade back and forth now and again. Like, NeNe would only go to Cynthia’s wedding if she was paid to attend. She’s all about her bag. But to be fair, it’s clear after Season 13 that Cynthia has no storyline without NeNe.
