Teen Mom Star Amber Portwood Explains Why She Let Cameras Back Into Her Life

Amber Portwood

With Teen Mom returning next year, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood have been working overtime to keep themselves in the gossip blogs. Catelynn is expecting a baby and Amber is rebuilding her life after battling addiction and anger issues and spending seventeen months in prison.

What’s Maci Bookout doing? Your guess is as good as mine. I honestly don’t pay any attention to the spoiled party girl. I’m sure the IRS is, though, now that she’s got a big pay day coming. 😉

Amber also has a new book, Never Too Late, to promote. In a recent interview, she talked about sharing her story, inviting cameras back into her life, opening her own rehab centers, reconnecting with Leah, and more.

Speaking to Starcasm, Amber shared, “I’ve been determined to just us my story of my life to help others in the same situation and give people hope. I just want to let people know that it is never too late.” Amber’s tell-all book came out last week.

Amber went on to share why she chose to film for Teen Mom again. Because, hello?!?! The experience and the fame didn’t end too well for her last time.

“I had a bunch of mixed feelings because I personally wanted to make sure that I was strong enough to handle the life again,” shared Amber. “I believe that I am strong enough to and I’m ready and willing to share the way that my life is now with fans. The main thing that I think helped me say yes to this show is I kind of thought, ‘You wrote this book. You wanted to help people. You want to reach out to as many people as you can, so why wouldn’t you do this?’”

UGH. I can think of several reasons why I think Amber should have said “NO!” to MTV. To name one, she recently admitted she hasn’t seen a doctor for her depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder since leaving prison.

In an attempt to move forward, Amber‘s focused all her energy on founding her own rehab centers and co-parenting Leah with Gary Shirley

“Everything I’m getting from what I’m doing, a lot of it is going towards building these rehabs, building these programs, building my website,” said Amber. “It’s going toward something that’s going to help others, not just benefit me.”

Amber said Gary allows her to see Leah as much as she wants, adding, “We don’t really argue anymore because we don’t have that personal relationship anymore.” About Leah specifically, Amber shared, “She says cute little things like the other day when she did her walk with heels on, she was like, ‘I’m a lady like Mommy.’ I just thought it was so adorable because I’m happy that she looks up to me now.”

When asked about a romantic relationship, Amber admitted she has feelings for a certain someone but they’re not officially together. “We’re taking things really slow,” she said. “I have to get myself back in gear and tell myself, ‘Ok, I can trust men, I just have to not be naive.’ That’s a problem that I have. I’m very naive when it comes to love. I do believe that I trust this man.”

While I wish Amber would have chosen to stay out of the spotlight, I will watch Teen Mom to see her story. Since Farrah Abraham wasn’t invited back and I could not care less about Maci or Catelynn, I will watch ONLY for Amber. I’m hopeful – and Leah is too cute for words!
