Abby Lee Miller Explains Brief Absence In Upcoming Season Of Dance Moms

dance moms reunion abby

After a season of Dance Moms that seemed to last a Lifetime (har har!), I’d all but forgotten Abby Lee Miller and her antics. Until now, that is. Welcome, weekend! Just like that, I was reminded that the dance teacher from hell would be returning for another, likely longer than eternity, sixth run. Don’t get me wrong, the fact these mothers keep their daughters in that situation boggles my mind as well (I know, I know…the contracts, the contacts, and the reality fame).

Apparently this go-round, Abby isn’t kowtowing to the show’s creator, Collins Avenue Productions. Abby, it seems, doesn’t like being forced into looking like a horrible role model (it’s worked so far, right?), and she’s reminding her fans not to pay attention to any negative gossip about her surrounding the upcoming season. Doesn’t she have anything better to complain about, like being indicted on numerous counts of bankruptcy fraud? JK, she’s totes not guilty, according to Abby herself.

Deadline is reporting on a newsletter the controversial studio owner released this week in which she cites a major squabble between her and the series’ production company. Claiming moralistic differences over “cockamamie ideas,” Abby writes, “If I’ve gone missing from a few episodes in Season 6, don’t believe anything anybody says,” adding, “No doubt, I am fighting with a Producer.”

The Dance Moms star explains, “When a grown man tells me he wants one of my kids to portray a pregnant teen and wear a baby bump — I have to put my foot down.” Oh, that’s right! I’d forgotten how Abby tries to stay far away from controversial, sensitive and age inappropriate subject matter when creating the choreography for her young dancers.

Abby continues, “If that means not moving my foot and not working and getting fined in the process, well that’s a risk I am willing to take to protect my girls. I am always teaching principles, integrity, and values in addition to dance technique. It is important for me that the girls learn to stand up and fight for what they believe in!”

Yes, that’s the Abby I remember…always fighting the good fight for an important cause even to her own detriment. Perhaps she should be more focused the potential $5 million fine and possible five year jail term she faces if she’s found guilty on the twenty fraud charges she’s facing. That’s just me though. 😉

Facing allegations of hiding show earnings and assets in excess of $755,000 during her bankruptcy hearings, Abby’s legal team is working over time to get an extension in order to better defend its client. Her lawyers asserted in a federal filing this week, “Additional time is needed for undersigned counsel to fully review the discovery material provided and to inspect and review the material located at the FBI’s Pittsburgh Office in order to perform a complete investigation of the facts and law before making informed decisions concerning the filing of pretrial motions.”

And so the Abby Lee Miller circus continues…not only on our televisions, but in the courtroom. Good times. The new season of Dance Moms debuts January 5 at 9 PM on Lifetime.
