Adam Lambert

Holy smokes, the American Idol rumors are running rampant! Adam Lambert is reportedly being considered as a judge for season 12 of the reality competition show that made him famous. It would be an easy switch – Jennifer Lopez, who wants to be done with American Idol, moves out and Adam Lambert moves in.

“He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start,” an unnamed source is quoted telling E! News. “He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him.”

On last night’s episode of Project Runway the designers made men’s wear for up and coming rock group, The Sheepdogs. Unfortunately ¾ of the designers had never sewn or cut a pattern before, let alone made men’s wear, and the other ¼ had only one concept of rock ‘n roll and that era ended before most of them were born!

Heidi Klum meets the designers on the runway and announces: “Image is everything!” before sending them on their way to meet Tim Gunn. When they arrive, Peter Butler, consulting stylist of Garnier is there with Tim. Apparently Garnier held a contest with Rolling Stone Magazine to find the next great, unsigned band. The winning band, The Sheepdogs, will be the models for this challenge and the designers have to help this band create a new image while also keeping it true to the musicians’ style. Did I mention they are ALL men?!

American Idol Big Mike

Viewers watching American Idol last night were shocked to see Michael Lynche aka Big Mike in the bottom three, but what was even more shocking was when Ryan Seacrest announced Mike as the receiver of the lowest number of votes this week.

The 26-year-old singer from New York found himself in the bottom three with Aaron Kelly and Andrew Garcia, even he had an okay performance with his version of “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles.

In his plea to the judges for their save (a one time opportunity the AI judges have to save one contestant this season), Michael performed “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell.

With the audience cheering on, Simon Cowell announced the judges would be using their save on him. “This is unanimous, Michael, if that’s any comfort. We have decided we’re going to see you next week,” said Simon.

Due to the judges’ save being used this week, two contestants will be eliminated next week.  One can only hope the judges’ other favorite, Crystal Bowersox, doesn’t get voted off anytime soon.  Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert will return next week to mentor the group.

Fox recently announced the ninth season of America Idol will premiere on Tuesday, January 12 at 8pm ET/PT. The season will premiere for two consecutive nights with a two-hour broadcast on Tuesday and a one-hour broadcast on Wednesday, January 13 at 8PM ET/PT.

The new season will feature the addition of Ellen DeGeneres as a replacement for Paula Abdul. Paula served as AI judge since the show began in 2002 and reportedly rejected a $5 million per year income and later announced her exit from Idol in August. Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi will be returning as judges while Ryan Seacrest will continue as host.

The auditions for American Idol took place over the summer and featured several guest judges in Paula’s spot including Victoria Beckham in Denver and Boston, Mary J. Blige in Atlanta, Joe Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris in Dallas, Kristin Chenoweth in Orlando, Shania Twain in Chicago, and Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles.

In other Idol news, Kris Allen’s self titled album dropped at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 album sales chart after selling only 80,000 copies during its week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan data. This is the lowest of any idol winner ever recorded. Before Kris, Jordin Sparks, sixth season winner previously held the record for lowest album sales and sold 119,000 copies in first week release in November 2007.

Those figures are especially low compared to the 198,000 albums sold by runner up, Adam Lambert, who has remained in the headlines due to his recent raunchy performance at the American Music Awards.

American Idol runner up Adam Lambert officially came out in Rolling Stone magazine this month, but another interesting tidbit Adam revealed was his crush on Kris Allen.

Adam tells Rolling Stone, “I was like, ‘Oh, s–, they put me with the cute guy,’ “Lambert recalls of bunking in the Idol mansion with Allen. “Distracting! He’s the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type – except that he has a wife. I mean, he’s open-minded and liberal, but he’s definitely 100 percent straight.”

And what is Kris Allen’s reaction to this new crush? “I’m flattered,” the Idol winner says, “And think it’s hilarious.”

In very shocking news, AI’s Adam Lambert has confirmed what the world already knew, that he is indeed gay. Adam appears on the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I’m gay,” says the American Idol runner-up.

Adam continues, “I’m proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.” Adam however is wary of becoming the poster boy for gay civil rights, “I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader.”

Adam also says he didn’t want to “come out” on American Idol, but rather wanted to do it on his own terms. “I was worried that [coming out] would be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing,” Lambert tells the mag. “I’m an entertainer, and who I am and what I do in my personal life is a separate thing. it shouldn’t matter. Except it does. It’s really confusing.”

In other news, Adam also signed a record deal with RCA Records. His record is set to be released this fall. We reported yesterday that AI winner, Kris Allen has also signed his record deal.
