Wednesday night on American Idol, judge Jennifer Lopez voiced her support for girl power, making it clear she did not want to see anymore girls going home, and she got her wish.

A week after Pia Toscano‘s shocking elimination, Paul McDonald was eliminated from AI. The 26-year-old Nashville, Tennessee native became the first guy to be eliminated this season following the eliminations of five female contestants.

Joining Paul in the bottom three were Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone. Stefano, who has been in the bottom many times this season, lived to sing another week.

“We’re bummed about this, man. You’re the life of the party,” said host Ryan Seacrest to Paul after delivering the bad news. “You’ve had such an amazing impact on our show. You really have.”

The remaining top 7 Idols return next week to sing songs from the 21st century. Katy Perry will perform her new single “E.T.” on next week’s results show, wtih season seven winner David Cook returning to premiere his new song ‘The Last Goodbye‘.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON PAUL’S ELIMINATION? SHOULD STEFANO HAVE BEEN SENT PACKING INSTEAD?

Following the judges’ use of the one time save last week on American Idol, it was double elimination night and there were no do-overs.

It seemed the fans of the show were well aware of this as they voted in record numbers. Over 55 million votes were cast this week according to host Ryan Seacrest, 25 million more votes than last week.

Last week’s least vote getter Casey Abrams was able to rest easy as he was safe from elimination. In the bottom three were Naima Adedapo, Thia Megia and Paul McDonald, with Naima and Thia getting the boot.

Not exactly a surprising elimination night as the two contestants have had a bit of a roller coaster season. Naima’s reggae rendition of “I’m Still Standing” on Wednesday night was panned by the judges, while Thia’s “Heat Wave” did not fare much better plus she was also in the bottom three last week.

Naima and Thia will still get to tour with the other remaining finalists as it was revealed during last Thursday’s elimination that the entire top 11 will get to participate in the summer tour.

Another interesting fact? The latest elimination makes this season the first time ever in Idol history the first four eliminated finalists were all women.

In other Idol news, In Touch Weekly is reporting that Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart might be dating! An insider tells In Touch that Haley and Casey, both age 20, have become quite the cozy couple.

“Most of their downtime is spent together and they have a very touchy-feely relationship,” reveals the insider. “They’re always lying on each other when they’re around the other contestants and everybody thinks they’re hooking up.”

Let the competition begin!

Just like that, we are now one step closer to finding the ultimate American Idol for season 10. Last night, the show narrowed down the 24 finalists to the top 13. The full list - Jacob Lusk, Haley Reinhart, Thia Megia, (back row) Lauren Alaina, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Karen Rodriguez, Ashthon Jones, James Durbin, Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano, (front) Paul McDonald and Casey Abrams.

The show began last night with Ryan Seacrest introducing the Top 24 while also announcing that after the cuts are made, the judges will ask some of the eliminated contestants to sing for a wild-card spot. “It’s going to be a tough night for us,” said judge Jennifer Lopez.

Entertainment Tonight also reports that the judges, who were only supposed to pick 2 wildcards, simply couldn’t narrow it down. “They didn’t make a final decision to make it 13 until the end,” said Ryan.

“We saw so many talented kids we didn’t know what we were going to quite do,” Randy Jackson explained. “I’m still thinking about it,” said Jlo. “I’m like, ‘Did we do the right thing? Did we put the right people in?’”

Meanwhile, Jlo, who would have never made it to the Hollywood round had she tried out for the show, is making certain to use the show to restart her stale music career. Her new music video, “On The Floor”, premiered last night while the judges were mulling over the wild card performances. That video is below -

Casey Abrams, the American Idol finalist who was hospitalized last Wednesday will get to stay on the show reports TMZ.

Casey, who was hospitalized after complaining of severe stomach pains was apparently in danger of being sent home due to his illness. The reason? He was very close to missing Friday’s taping of the top 12 males — something all contestants are required to participate in to remain on the show.

Good news came for Casey as he was able to make the Friday tapings after receiving a blood transfusion at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is not expected to return to the hospital.

And above is the official photo of the top 24 contestants: Top row (L-R) Kendra Chantelle, Jovani Barreto, Lauren Turner, Casey Abrams, Tatynisa Wilson, James Durbin, Karen Rodriguez, Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina, Thia Megia, Scott McCreery, Brett Loewenstern, Pia Toscano and Jordan Dorsey. Bottom row (L-R): Rachel Zevita, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, Julie Zorrilla, Tim Halperin, Haley Reinhart, Clint Jun Gamboa, Robbie Rosen, Naima Adedapo and Ashthon Jones.
