Stop the bus! We’ve got a lot of Stevie J. news to share. Before I start, I certainly hope that Mona Scott Young has Dr. Drew on speed dial so she can cash in on her Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star’s latest dramz! Celebrity Rehab plus LHH:ATL definitely equals a reality train wreck we’d all tune in to watch. And I’m worried about the future of humanity! 😉
We all know that ol’ Stevie has been battling the feds over a minor child support snafu. Please note that “minor” was supposed to be typed in my special “sarcasm” font. The reality star reportedly owes back support to one the mothers of his children to the tune of over $1 million after neglecting to pay since 2001. His hearing is scheduled for January 9th, but apparently Stevie is hoping to strike a deal. Here’s hoping it happens before he heads to rehab. Yes, you read that correctly!

According to The Jasmine Brand, Stevie J. is close to reaching a plea deal with the federal government regarding his massive child support debt. Among the points to be decided are whether Stevie will have to serve any jail time and just how much he’ll have to pay. Stevie has allegedly skirted his $6,600/month payment (later raised to $8,800/month) for well over a decade.
It’s not as if Stevie couldn’t afford to pay (or at least catch up on his payments thanks to the wild popularity of LHH:ATL). The site reports that Stevie makes about $27,000 a month from the VH1 hit…not to mention that he’s may have collected as much as $105,000 in music royalties alone in the past ten years. As Stevie and the feds hammer out the details of the deal, court documents have been filed to postpone the upcoming hearing (and hopefully settle before a hearing is needed) in light of the negotiations.
While that may sound like good news for Stevie, he may still be serving time…perhaps at Promises? Page Six is reporting that Stevie has failed ten–yes, TEN!–drug tests while out on bail for said child support debacle. It appears that Stevie can’t give up the pot or the coke given that both drugs have shown up in multiple random urine tests. I’m no criminal justice guru (no matter how obsessed with Serial I am), but I feel like ten failed tests before taking action is pretty excessive. I feel like most non-famous people would get slapped after failing just one drug test.
The site claims that Stevie has been banished to a thirty-day inpatient rehab center due to these multiple failed tests (what, no jail?), and his attorney is asserting that his rehab session will keep him from making the money that will allow him to start paying off his debts. Really? That’s quite a stretch. His lawyer argued, “If he’s in inpatient he can’t support his family.” I don’t want to go all Perry Mason on this guy, but he hasn’t been in an inpatient facility since 2001, has he?
The judge agrees with me, stating that Stevie J. was lucky to be getting court mandated rehab instead of jail time. He warned, “I would be sorely tempted to revoke bail at this stage.” Stevie should be thanking his lucky stars. He’ll be able to parlay a rehab stint into spin-off much easier than if he was relegated to jail. We may all forget about him while he’s serving time!
TELL US-ARE YOU SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT STEVIE J. MAY BE HEADED TO REHAB? SHOULD HE BE ALLOWED TO COP A PLEA TO HIS CHILD SUPPORT WOES?
